They asked him if he wants the ball in game one/five.

Said he wants the ball in game three so he can finish it off after (presumably) Demp and Harden pitch the first two.

Don't know if he was serious or if it's just Z being Z like when he said he didn't want the ball on Opening Day, but it might make sense after he voiced his preference for pitching on mounds other than Wrigley's last night. Plus, I could see him wanting to be the one to close it out.

He mentioned that he'd want to pitch game 1 of the World Series.

Also talked a bit about the no-hitter and how it was so surreal and he mentioned (much like Wood before his 20k game) that, in the bullpen, he didn't feel all that great and was a bit wild, but mostly I just wanted to pass on the stuff he may or may not have revealed about the playoff rotation.

He doesn't think we would sweep?!?!?!?!

He does. That's why he said he wanted to pitch game 3 and close it out.

He also did an impression of Lou congratulating him last night in Spanish. It was pretty funny.

At first he did it in English but said that Lou actually congratulated him in Spanish.

I was thinking World Series. He was apparently talking first round. Excuse me, please. I am having a case of the Mondays.

Peter Gibbons: Let me ask you something. When you come in on Monday, and you're not feelin' real well, does anyone ever say to you, 'Sounds like someone has a case of the Mondays'?

Lawrence: No. No, man. ****, no, man. I believe you'd get your *** kicked sayin' something like that, man.

Harden-Z-Dempster seems ideal to me. As good as Dempster has been, I genuinely believe Z has a much better chance of having a good start in any given day.

The problem I'd have with Harden going first, you'll either A) have him go on 3 days rest for game 4 or B) have a 4th guy in the rotation.

I'd rather it go Z, Harden, Dempster or Dempster, Harden, Z...so if you get to a 5th game, you have Harden on full rest. And if you don't get to a game 5, you have him with extra rest for the next series. I like Z or Dempster on short rest much better than Harden.

Do we really want to go to anyone on short rest in game 4? I don't. The history is pretty bad for it, which is especially telling given the fact that it's usually a team's best starter that's doing it.

I'll take Lilly as the #4 gladly...just my opinion.

I'd go Z, Dempster, Harden. Then you can get to the WS riding only those 3 and even if you go to the max in every series, only Z and Dempster would have to go on 3 days rest (Z once in the DS, Dempster once in the CS). That way Harden will never have to go on short rest.

Yeah, that sounds like a bad idea, especially given Harden and Zambrano's recent health issues. I want neither of those guys pitching on short rest.

Harden

Z

Dempster

Lilly

Harden

I'm definitely against using starters on short rest. Lilly is better than any of our top 3 on short rest. He's better than pretty much any starter on short rest, and without looking into it, I'd probably take him against any other 4 we'd go up against.

If you think Gordon knows what he is talking about (which I don't think anyone does):

Barring injury or another scheduling glitch, that makes the playoff rotation: Zambrano, Lilly and Dempster, with either Marquis or Harden as the final one in a probable four-man rotation.

Lou can't possibly be thinking of putting Lilly ahead of Harden, right?

He's basing that off of how our current rotation is setup. He apparently doesn't have the ability to think rationally and realize that we'll have time at the end of the year to set our rotation.

Exactly, which is the same thing Van Dyck (I think) did in the Trib a week or two ago.

Assuming we choose to play the Wednesday night game, nobody has to go on short rest to go 3-man.

I know this is late but the Cubs will have to play the Wednesday night game. It's only in the AL that one series will have an extra day off.

Here is the schedule.

As far as the rotation goes (not in response to you, Kyle), there's no way I'd do a three-man rotation in the playoffs.
