David Ortiz just layed down a successful sac bunt in Boston.

HAHAHHAHA ... what is Francona smoking?

They're in the 12th at home, that probably greatly played into his decision.

I'm not going to try and run the numbers, but I think that was a ridiculous move. Didn't work either.

Wood will be ok, but tonight was not the night to get him his work. I said it earlier and I'm pissed off now. I don't know how anyone could have been surprised. With how Lilly pitched all night and with the starters coming up, there was no reason to use Wood. It ended up being ok, but this performance by Wood just erased a portion of the momentum that this game could have given us. If Lou wants to "kick some ass" then you use Lilly....what a moron.

Momentum in baseball is all about the pitcher on a given day. if the Cubs get no hit tomorrow it won't matter what Lilly did today.

But when there is a bad taste left in the mouth of the team at the end of each game, the positives aren't there and it causes tightness in the locker room. At this point in the season, the way that things are going, we need to be piling up the positives to try to get all the way out of the funk that we're in.

Agreed. Ortiz should be swinging away no matter what, esp. considering the chances were high the sac wouldn't have worked.

Pedroia was stranded, they're in the 13th.

the cubs won, that's generally considered a positive.

No kidding.

That guy is talking about vague things like "tightness" and crap...how about your closer only having thrown once in the last week? Get him some work.

Bad tastes is for fans; These guys just care about wins. Don't think for a second that any one of them is upset about this victory. The Cubs have been a good team all season. Don't get caught up in the last 10 -12 sub par games. If anything, this helps Woody's confidence that he can close a game when he doesn't have his best stuff. Not to mention he needed the work (he wouldn't be so shaky if he was pitching regularly).

Geez, what a boring game in Boston.

LOL, that just changed. 4-1 Tampa

Wow, now getting exciting. Bases loaded, no outs for Boston. These are the games where it's great being neutral.

What a Cub-like ending. Youkilis with a sac fly to right, Bay strikes out on a pitch in the dirt, Cora flies to center.

Fake rally.

This sucks...the Astros AND Phillies have to lose now for our magic number to go down for a playoff spot.

Cardinals too. Although, we can take care of that...

Do they? Is it because they are tied in losses? Because they are 1/2 game back of those other guys.

Yeah, It's all about the Cubs wins + the contenders losses. They have to equal 163.
