Is it rational for me to be this afraid of the astros catching us?

Yes, horribly irrational. The Astros are 9 games back in the loss column.

And this trainwreck has 18 more games of hoping the crew and phils lose....while facing the Stros 3 times.

At what point do the Brewers worry about the Astros.....only 4 back now. This has 2004/2005 written all over it.

Once they get past the Cardinals. The 4 games back might not seem like that much, but jumping St. Louis, Philadelphia/New York, and Milwaukee isn't going to be easy for them to do with only 17 games left. That's an insane amount of games that have to go right for the Astros to take control of the wildcard.

At this point, I think the Brewers are more concerned about the possibility of playing poorly in Philly this weekend, since they're the more imminent threat.

Have I ever mentioned that I love the Brewers bullpen?

Honestly, not being a jerk, this is the most positive thing I've ever seen you post.

Well, sad to say, there hasn't been much to be positive about with our ballclub over the last 35 years or so.

Would you take the scenario the Cubs were in at their peak? Or the scenario now?

When they were at their peak, they had a hot Brewers team on their tail, and an incredibly dangerous playing well Diamondbacks team as their first round opponent.

Now the Cubs aren't playing well. Neither are the Brewers anymore, who if they play badly against the Phillies/Cubs could make themselves vulnerable to missing the playoffs entirely. Plus, the Diamondbacks could fall 2.5 games back of the Dodgers if these games hold up tonight.

One could argue that the Cubs are actually in better shape today to make the WS then they were a few games ago despite their slide and poor play.

I liked that winning thing. Magic numbers fall no matter what the other team does when we win.

All of this would be very true (imo) if the Cubs were showing any signs of life. Every day is getting uglier, however.

We have much to discuss.

Like when Geo struck out ~28 times in a row against Washington. Or LA lost 8 in a row like a week ago. Streaks in baseball only tell you what happened, not what's going to happen.

One thing is that they can't help themselves by beating any of those teams you mentioned.

What they can do though is play Pittsburgh 5 more times, the Cubs 3, the braves 3, the reds 3, and the marlins 3 times.

That is a very favorable schedule with the way they are playing right now, I just hope we can come back take the next 2 from the cards and 2 of 3 from the astros that would make me more comfortable.

I don't give a damn about streaks...all I care about is that the cubs are playing terrible baseball right now and I'd really prefer that they started playing good baseball prior to and during the playoffs. To me, Cubs playing well with less of a lead > Cubs doing terrible but lucking out because everyone else is too.

The Brewers bullpen in 4.2ip today gave up 1 run. We are losing because of our offense right now.

Agreed. Aside from Gagne, the Brewers pen, or pitching hasnt been much of a problem at all. Much like the Cobs, it's the offense thats dead in the water. Theres no excuse for either of these teams to be struggling to put up 3 runs a game if their lucky while a crap team like the Astros gos on an unbeatable streak.
