Albert Pujols-1B- Cardinals Sep. 9 - 1:16 am et

Albert Pujols told told KSDK-TV that he's leaning towards undergoing Tommy John surgery.

Cards fans can look at the bright side here: if the team misses the postseason, it'd be a lot easier for Pujols to undergo the surgery and still be ready for next year. If the Cardinals were to play deep into October, Pujols would probably put the procedure off for another year.

In all reality, this would probably be the best time to do it, but I guess TLR is still clinging to hope, but then again, if they were 45 games out with Alberts arm hanging by a thread, he wouldnt shut him down for a Cubs series.

What's the recovery time for hitters compared to pitchers for TJS?

Depends on if he wants to throw like Jeff Bagwell did at the end of his career.

He plays 1st base. That's the one position on the field where you can have a limp noodle for an arm and it doesn't make a whole lot of difference. Any player in the majors can put enough behind a throw to get it wherever a first baseman needs to throw it at any given time.

I thought Bagwell's issues were his shoulder and it impacted his swing.

Correct. If he had the surgery today he could be back at the end of April next year.
