I want my team to start playing better baseball before the playoffs begin.

Right now I don't think it matters who we play. If we play like we are right now, we will lose against any of the possible opponents.

I want to face LAD before ARI in the NLDS, but man has that team (offense specifically) turned it on as of late.

I am going to be two-faced and say I think the D'bags are done. A week & a half, to two weeks, ago I was saying that LAD was done.

My first choice would probably be the Dodgers, and we will likely end up with them, or the D-Backs, whichever takes the NL West.

Right now, it's looking like this

#1 seed:Cubs

#2:Mets

#3:Dodgers

#4:Brewers

meaning we'd play LA. If the D-Backs catch the Dodgers, I doubt they'll catch the Mets/Phillies, so we'll basically face the NL West winner barring dramatic changes.

But seriously, I think if the Cubs play like they did mid-season, or at least better than this month so far, we'll be fine. Despite the recent troubles, the Cubs are still the best team in the NL, and I think this will be confirmed come October.

I think the Dodgers are a tougher matchup than the DBacks. The DBacks top 2 pitchers have been bad recently. Offensively, you can slider them to death. Cubs have strikeout pitchers. Arizona's hitter strike out a ton. Don't let Conor Jackson beat you and don't throw fastballs to Dunn, Young, Upton, and Reynolds you have a shot at shutting them down offensively. Manny has made the Dodgers a different team. He's been the best player in the NL since the trade. Ethier has killed the ball since the AS break. Kent and Martin have killed the Cubs this year. Loney and Kemp killed the Cubs last year. The Dodgers' starters all have good numbers vs. the Cubs. And the Cubs have never seen the phenom, Kershaw. Unlike Arizona, the Dodgers don't have a lot of guys you can pitch a certain way and get them out.

Kent is probably done for the season and guys like Kemp, Loney, and Martin don't scare me just because they happened to have played well in a tiny sample size of games against the Cubs. Also I wouldn't call Kershaw a "phenom". His numbers aren't very good... he's still a couple years away.

Fun fact. Did you know the Cubs scored 19 runs in 7 games against the Dodgers (5-2) and 28 runs in 6 games against Arizona (4-2)?

Of course we didn't face Webb and Haren only once but still. Dodgers have good pitching. The thing is, they don't have any bonafied aces, and I feel like we can hit their pen better than Arizona's. Pretty much the only reason I was petrified about Arizona is Webb, Haren and Johnson shutting us down. Even if they aren't playing well they can still dominate at a moment's notice.
