Fun Fact -

The Brewers and Cubs are a combined 0-7 in September, and have been outscored 40 to 18. :banghead:

Both teams were so hot that they were bound to cool off. It's strange that the both cooled off at the exact same time.

The thing is that the Brewers losses kill them right now, while ours just suck. That's the advantage of being 30 games over and holding a 5 game lead. The Brewers are up against it for sure when it comes to catching us.

We go 11-11 and they'll need to go 16-6 to tie us. Lets take the series in Cinci and start winning some games again.

Advantage Cubs. Let's just keep it that way with a few wins.

For sure.

"I admit that I am in full panic mode right now. I really think we are going to blow this playoff spot. With Peavy going on Saturday we will be lucky to split this series and if we somehow lose with CC pitching tomorrow night this team could really fall aprt in a hurry. I truly fear the road trip especially the games in Philly and Chicago. If we dont make the playoffs this year I dont think we ever will and that is sad".

"I will only add that if this teams blows a playoff spot this year, I will not be renewing my season tickets for next year. 15 years of season tickets w/o the playoffs is my limit.

Fool me once, shame on you; fool me 15 times...well, I don't even know how to respond to that one".

It's easier to see what a fan over-reaction looks like when it is someone else's fans. I agree with C.C. -- both teams were due for a cool-off. I don't think it's anything more than that at the moment.

Lol, another great quote:

"As I said before, if this team misses the playoffs, I'm just walking away. Done with them. Walking away. I know there have been worse collapses for other teams, but this is the year we need to do it. The Brewers have looked too legitimately "real" all season long for them to not even get a shot at the playoffs. To hold my love, excitement, and genuine confidence for almost 6 months and then miss the playoffs on shoddy defense, unclutch batting, and terrible pullpen issues is too much for me to take for something that offers so little real tangible reward."

It's tough for the Brewers because they fought so damn hard for virtually nothing. They had an amazing run in August and gained nothing.

Thanks Estes!!

Shawn Estes in September when it matters to the Cubs is money.

That CG shutout against the Reds in '03 was the most improbably clutch performance I have ever witnessed.

That's the point. They can't afford to just keep pace, they need to gain ground and now they only have 22 games to do it. We are exactly where we were (Up 5) when we left Miller park after that 4 game, thing of beauty, sweep over a month ago.

It was like seeing a guy in a wheelchair get up and walk around for three hours before returning back to his wheelchair. The fact that it happened still blows my mind.

While we have not really gained any ground in the divison, we did increase the wild card lead, so it was for something.

And the Cardinals have proved that they have no intention of crawling back into the race.

It looks like most of the top NL teams have hit a funk. in the last 10 games, Cubs, Brewers, Phillies, and Dodgers are all 5-5, and the D Bags are 3-7. Only the Mets are doing OK for themselves at 7-3.

And we are stilled tied for the most wins in baseball. Just shows you how much we kicked ass in August!

Am I missing something?

Don't the Brewers still have a 4 game lead in the Wild Card? Do they think the Phillies will really be 4 games better than them over the last 22 games?

If the Brewers go 11-11, the Phillies would have to go 15-7 to tie, 16-6 to win.

Sure, but they are probably going to go 0 for the rest of the season.

True but we could say the same thing about the Brewers being 5 games better than us over 22 (or however few) games. Of course the Brewers are better than the Phillies, but, then again, we're better than the Brewers.

The key is going to be the four-game set the Brewers have in Philly next weekend. The Phillies will have to face Sheets but they miss CC. If the Phillies can win that series, that means they would only have to make up two games over the last 18, which is certainly possible. If the Brewers split that series, though, they're set.

Wow, the Brewers play the Phillies soon? Awesome win-win situation.
