Fan voting for the Ford Frick Award (broadcaster) begins today. Fans can vote once per day and vote for up to three broadcasters. The top three choices in the fan voting will be included on the final ballot for the award. Many broadcasters on the ballot with Cubs ties. My votes are for Vince Lloyd, Pat Hughes, and Jack Quinlan (I never heard him because he died before I started following baseball, but everythiing I read about him indicates he was one of the best). Voting concludes Sept. 30; results to be announced Oct. 6.

I'm guessing that everybody who qualifies is listed. I'm not sure what the qualifications are, but it's probably related to how long someone has been broadcasting.

I think it's funny that Andy Masur is up for the award. Those Square D Scoreboard Updates really smell like HOF material.

Yeah, but he's had an upgrade in jobs since then. Since Masur has been doing games for San Diego as part of the booth for 2 years now, he's eligible. He probably wouldn't have been eligible the years he was in Chicago for the work he was doing..at least that's my guess.

If you click on his bio on the ballot it looks like his time in Chicago does count (perhaps because he did some fill-in broadcasting). He's credited with 10 years total, 8 in Chicago and 2 in San Diego. Mu guess is that 10 years is the minimum to qualify for the award.

you realize he's since moved on, right?

Yes, but I'll always think of him as the Cubs pre-game announcer. I don't really listen to him with the Padres.

Of course we have a similar thread on Cards Talk pushing people to vote for Mike Shannon. :-&

Hughes is a solid vote. Otherwise, I don't know much about most of these other folks.
