Before Saturday's GDT gets out of hand, let's bring the conversation here...

The Cubs remaining schedule:

3 @ CIN

4 @ NYM

The Brewers remaining schedule:

1 @ PIT

3 vs. NYM

4 vs. SD

3 vs. CIN

4 @ PHI

off day

3 @ CHC

3 @ CIN

While the Brewers clearly have an easier schedule, there's a point in mid-September where we can bury them pretty deep. Let's say we have a 4 game lead on them entering September 11th (Hopefully it's bigger than that). The Brewers are having a 4 game set at Philly, which will be their toughest non-Cub matchup the rest of the way. During that 4 game span, the Cubs are finishing with one in St. Louis and then go to Houston for 3. We should hopefully be able to pick up 2 games on them at least during that stretch. Then after a shared day off, the Cubs and Brewers have the 3 game set at Wrigley, where we could do some major damage, with only 10 to play for us after that, and 9 for Milwaukee.

Yeah I really like the next 12 games coming up for the Cubs. Would love to see the Cubbies take each and every series and gain a few more on the Brewers.

Let's also remember that the head to head games are sort of a double edged sword for the Brewers.

With this few games left, a split is very bad for them. It gives them six fewer games in which to gain any ground. The only way those games work out significantly positively for them is if they take 5/6 or 6/6.

A split or better in the Cubs favor is a very positive outcome for us. And 4/6 for the Brewers is fairly good for them, but not quite the blow they need.

Either way, it's an advantage in our favor that 3-3 is a far better outcome for us than it is for them.

Of course, this is all subject to change given whatever the lead is at the point that those games come up.

The only way the Cubs don't win the division is if they can't beat the Brewers in those 2 series. If they were to split those 6 games and play only .500 ball in the rest of their games, the Brewers need a 15-5 finish aside from those series to beat them. If they win 4 of 6, then the Brewers need a 16-4 finish, assuming the Cubs only play at a .500 level.

The way the Brewers are playing, I don't think 15-5 is out of the question at all.

but really, it doesn't matter what the Brewers do. Even if they overtake us, we still will make the playoffs.

I might even rather have the wildcard, so that we could play the Mets or Phillies and not the DBacks

That's if the Cubs only play .500 the rest of the way... which I don't think they've done all year over the course of that many games...

Sorry. While I want them in the playoffs either way, this season needs to end with a Divisional winner. If it's anything less, I'll assume we lost some momentum and aren't going to be in great shape going into the playoffs, so I want to see the Cubs as division champs, on a number of levels.

Stop being worried about the D'Backs... They're barely an above .500 team. Yes, they beat us last year, but that doesn't mean they will this year.

They're just about as dangerous as any other team in the playoffs (they all are). Probably slightly more so, but nothing worth freaking out about.

Face it. Our season comes down to who wins 3 out of 5 regardless of who we face, and any team could knock us out.

I dunno, I think the DBacks are more dangerous than the Mets or Phillies because of their top 3 SP and the fact their offense has improved a good bit in the past month. I think that team is a lot more dangerous than the record suggests.

And the way the Cubs are playing the Cubs can equal that record in the next 20 games, and it won't matter.
