He giveth and he taketh away.

These umps are completely horrible!!!

This may be a playoff-like matchup (of teams), but these umps aren't even worth of Spring Training! :blackeye:

Wow, the strike zone this inning has been about 3 inches wide and 5 inches high, for both teams. Fortunately, the Cubs kept taking. (Well, fortunately except for Blanco)

I can't feel bad about the guy getting called out at first when the out should've been recorded a hitter before, anyway (assuming what you guys say is true, cause I sure as hell haven't seen the play).

Why did Gaudin not come back this inning?

Not sure but it wasn't a good decision by Lou. Gaudin's thrown 7 pitches in the last week, all of which came on Tuesday (granted, he did throw 52 on Aug. 22). But what makes it curious is the fact that the pitcher's spot is due up first next inning. Since Wood is unavailable and Marmol would presumably pitch the ninth, I'm not sure who would pitch the eighth.

I bet it's Howry after looking halfway decent yesterday. Not that I want it to be.

Thats 3 calls this year where the ump clearly blew it from the naked eye

once in Atlanta and once in Boston which I have video of also... just wow

instant replay isn't being used correctly, that's for sure

they havent' shown the replay, but he looked safe. Lee was crawling after the ball for awhile before tossing it to first.

The Cubs double-switched in Johnson this past inning. Samardzija is probably going another inning.

WOW

Thanks ump

holy cow

i'd thank him if he hadn't blown the call on the play before. csn philly had a good view of utley's foot still in the air as lee scooped the ball.

fortunately the bad calls evened out.

what happened

Howard hit a grounder to Lee's right. Semi-laid out for it, ball quickly got away from him... got to it, flipped to Shark and Howard was called out. He looked to be pretty safe though.

Just showed the replay. It was a lot closer than it first looked, but he was safe. Howard acted like a big baby, stomping around and throwing his helmet.

I completely forgot about the double switch so I bet it's Shark for the eighth unless the Cubs send eight hitters to the plate.

Oh wow.

Howard was so safe, Utley not so much.

(Utley was safe, thanks to ultra slow-mo replays... but the ump couldn't have been able to tell, it was SO close)

Reed as double switched into the game so Shark is still pitching

Oh yeah, Howard was safe. We got a break.

who cares? the inning should've been over a few pitches earlier anyways. if anything, we got the shaft that inning, not them (if theriot's throw was, in fact, in time)
