And that's why you don't bring him out for the 8th. Three long ABs later, and he has thrown 110 pitches and gotten 1 more out than he had otherwise.

Of course Marmol is warming...

And its not a big deal

None of our big three relievers pitched yesterday, so there's no problem here.

Exactly, Marmols usage in the 2nd half has been just fine

Why did Dempster hit? He should be done for the day.

It's probably a combination of the long string of consecutive games that the Cubs are in, and the fact that Gaudin threw 52 pitches yesterday. It's not like they're stretching Dempster out in this game..they're just not taking him out early.

Samardzija could pitch the last 2. Howry 1. Marmol or Wood 1. 90 pitches isn't a short outing. He was at 90 before this inning.

It's not like Dempster is a 20 year old rookie. He should be fine.

Alright, let's get out of it before this game becomes interesting.

I don't even want to think about this game being a carbon copy of yesterday

While Demp isnt 20, he also hasnt thrown this many innings in years. His pitch count, and innings need to be watched carefully.

That's not the point. 5-run lead, he showed signs of ineffectiveness last inning. His spot came up in the order in the bottom of the inning. It made no sense to throw him another inning. He wound up throwing 21 pitches to get 1 out and could have still had his ERA go up.

But this is his first season starting since 2002. One has to take that into account. Today could have been an easy day to give him 20 pitches off.

Well done by Marmol. I'd consider Howry in the 9th.

Defense really hasnt been at its best today.

Its funny you say that, yet are clamoring for DLee to go to DL and Hoff to take over.

Hoffpauir is good defensively. It's not an insane suggestion because of defense.

While good I highly doubt hes near as good as DLee is at picking throws.
