As a mostly impartial observer of the game, I dont think the refs had much to do with the Hawks losing. I agree that NHL refereeing is bad, but it is not impartial. Its bad for everyone.

Despite the fact that the Hawks got outplayed in the 3rd, 2 of the final 3 goals were scored on BS penalties, and the difference in the game was those 2 goals.

 

Would the Hakws have won without the garbage officating? Who knows, but the refs took that chance away from them.

No. The Refs also didnt have the benefit of TiVo. So the calls were legit. This does not take away from the fact that Nashville outplayed the Hawks. Complain about the officiating all you want, but the Preds won because they were the better team last night.

 

Also I know this is a predominately pro-Hawks site, but if you are going to claim lose because of refeeing, you should be prepared to claim victory because of officiating.

In the olden days, I really did believe Wirtz has pissed off the NHL and that they worked against him. Now the league is smart enough to know it needs the Hawks to be good. If anything, I could see other teams accusing us of having the league in our pocket.

 

If anything, the schedule has been a positive. This team is in great position and now has a ton of home games ahead of it.

I don't get that. We're not talking about a ref having to call a ball fair or foul or something like that. You're not forced to call penalties. You call them when you see somebody do something wrong. Many of those calls were garbage and had no reason to be called, especially consecutively.

 

And the only period the Hawks were really outplayed was the 3rd, and it's hard not to get outplayed when you're shorthanded for like a 3rd of the period. How are you supposed to get anything going when you're shorthanded 4 times in one period? They still outshot the Preds for the game and had a 2 goal lead going into the 3rd period. Like i said, 2 of the last 3 goals came on power plays from penalties that should NOT have been called. Take away those 2 BS coals and it's still 3-3, not to mention the momentum factor.

 

Did the Hawks deserve to win? I don't know. What I do know if that the refs took the chance away from them. If not for the 3 consecutive phony calls in the 3rd, I firmly believe that the Hawks get at least one point.

But last night I think it can objectively be said that they were awful. That call on Ladd was indefensible. There were a few other tripping calls where there was nothing more than a swipe of the stick across the shins. That is not enough to send an NHL skater flailing to the ice.

 

I thought the call on Huet was legit. There was no reason for him to do what he did, though I like my goalies to have a bit of a mean streak in them.

 

I wish we didn't have three days to stew about this one, but I'm really looking forward to Friday night.

This trade is a head scratcher. I understand it from Anahiems position. They need dmen. I have the feeling the Penguins brought in Kunitz to appease the Kid. Nice player but for the similar size contract I would rather have Whitney. Dont know much about the prospect that Pittsburgh is getting also.
