This trade is a head scratcher. I understand it from Anahiems position. They need dmen. I have the feeling the Penguins brought in Kunitz to appease the Kid. Nice player but for the similar size contract I would rather have Whitney. Dont know much about the prospect that Pittsburgh is getting also.

 

whitney isn't a good defensive defenseman. kunitz will backcheck, which is something that pittsburgh forwards don't like to do. they're not struggling to make the playoffs because of a lack of scoring ability; rather, they need to do a better job of preventing scoring opportunities on fleury. this makes sense from their perspective (though they do need a defensive d-man pretty badly).

I'm surprised they haven't rested Huet. They could let one of the minor leaguers play, the 4th seed is pretty much a guarantee(sort of) so it's not like these game are incredibly important.

Well, 8 games in a row isn't exactly unprecedented. And he was getting plenty of rest early in the season. I think they are trying to get him in a groove, potentially to justify a Khabi trade, or just to make it easier to pick a playoff goalie.

Update: Khabibulin (groin) made a failed attempt at practicing on Thursday, according to the Daily Herald.

 

Recommendation: Khabibulin laced on the skates and got on the ice, but that was it. “He was on skates a little bit (Thursday) and did some things, but we’ll give him some time here,” Hawks’ coach Joel Quenneville said. The Bulin Wall is still about at least a week or more away. With the trade deadline coming up, the injury makes it very doubtful that he will be traded.

 

Wonder if this is merely just giving an excuse to keep Bulin out til the deadline? I mean I rewatched the game he hurt himself in and nothing traumatic happened and he stayed in the whole game? Hard to believe without getting run into or showing any signs of distress that he's been injured this long.

Ehh, you may not see anything that will indicate a groin injury on a goalie and when he's warm and has mid-game adrenaline he might not feel it that bad. Unfortunately, ANY lingering groin pain is going to mean a goalie is going to have to sit out.
