Who is starting tomorrow for Daytona because I'm going to the game.

Either Hung-Wen Chen or James Russell.

Is Cashner going to pitch again this year or are they going to hide him away due to his poor showings the last couple times out?

I don't see why they would "hide" him.

Isn't that what they basicly did with Vitters earlier this year when he couldn't handle Peroia? They came up with a phantom injury and then he was in Mesa for a long while. It just seems like Ive seen that done with high draft picks with disapointing starts before.

I thought Chen was pitching in the Olympics and when did Russell come back down to Daytona?

It wasn't a phantom injury, it was tendonitis that kept him from playing for over a month even after he returned to extended spring training in Mesa. He only had 14 at bats in Peoria, how the hell could they figure out if he couldn't handle it? They didn't do that with him last year when he struggled; heck, after he hit .067 in the AZL last year, they bumped him up to Boise.

Cashner's thrown 3.2 innings thus far, they aren't going to "hide" him unless he's really hurt.

Chen missed the final cut for the Taiwan Olympic team (he was initially on their roster). Russell was demoted earlier this week (when Marco Carrillo was promoted and Rich Hill was DLed).

He reapeared pretty quickly in Mesa after they decided that he had tendonitis. It prevented him from playing in Peoria where he was doing very little, 14 at bats or not, but it didnt prevent him from swinging the bat in Mesa? It just looked alot like tendonitis was a good way of saying he's not ready for Peoria but we dont want it to look like our first round draft pick is a bust so lets say he has tendonitis and hide him in Mesa. The guy rebounded fairly well from it all so Im not saying anything negative about Vitters I just think its a clasic example of what it seems like they've done with high round draft picks before. Its also my personal perception, and could very well be wrong *shrug*...

What are you talking about?

Vitters got hurt on April 21st and had his hand checked on April 30th in Chicago:

CaliforniaRaisin on May 1st"]Josh Vitters was in Chicago getting his hand checked out:

Peoria Journal Star"]Josh Vitters, the Chicago Cubs' top-ranked prospect according to Baseball America, was in Chicago to have his injured hand examined by the club's medical staff.

"He's still bothered," Chiefs manager Ryne Sandberg said. "It's a little bit of tendinitis in his hand."

Vitters aggravated the hand swinging April 21 against Lansing. He left that game in the fifth inning.

By early May he was down in Mesa:

ChiefsVoice on May 5th"]This happened April 21st. And again, as i put in the other thread, he is not on the DL, just back in Mesa.

As late as May 27th, he couldn't do BP because it hurt:

Arizona Phil | The Cub Reporter"]3B Josh Vitters (tendinitis in his hand) is only able to take infield practice right now (no BP).

Sure seems to be a lot to do and a long time for him to not swing the bat for a phantom injury (leaving in the middle of a game, flying to Peoria to get his hand examined, not doing BP for at least 37 days between Peoria and Mesa).

Certainly a step in the right direction.

I stand corrected Cali, my paranoid mind is sliping. Also thanks for the Gooz updates, he looks like he's in good shape.
