Dave Kaplan said at the end of Chicago Tribune live that he has heard the Cubs are looking at acquiring him. Not sure how legit the rumor is though with the Marlins being buyers seemingly.

I don't understand their obsession with lefties at all. Our bench right now is

 

Edmonds (L) or Johnson ®

Fontenot (L)

Ward (L)

Blanco ®

Cedeno ®

 

I mean I know we have a lot of righties in the starting lineup, but you gotta have someone other than Ronny/Blanco you can count on coming off the bench as a righty.

seriously though, Ward is so much better. This would be a horrible move.

 

Also, contrary to popular belief among many of this board, Ward's been an above average hitter this year. Not as good as his past few seasons (especially last year), but still extremely solid for a bat off the bench.

With Ibanez and Bradley likely to be too expensive, I could see Hendry trying to pull this off as a consolation prize.

I do think he's an upgrade from Ward. I wouldn't mind it as long as we literally give up nothing to get him. I would like to see us get some insurance for Edmonds, but we're not exactly hurting right now either, so if the prices are too steep and we decide to stand pat, I'll understand for sure.

Gonzo is in his twilight years. His stats aren't that good and even his splits don't inspire me.
