In the past day or 2, rumors having been floating around that Steve Bartman will attend a Cubs game this year. One of them says it was going to be the Nationals series, and another one that was vague and just said August.

I did some research and the Nationals do play the Cubs in August.

As a cubs fan and us having a playoff team, im kind of against this. He could have gone to a game earlier in the season or in years past when we werent in the playoff hunt. I think this is bad karma coming our way.

what's everyone's feeling on him going to a game?

lol...who cares...all that crap isn't steve's fault

i wouldn't care if he went to the first game at wrigley in the world series

Bartman had nothing to do with losing that game. Alex Gonzalez booting the ball did. Bartman is neither good nor bad karma for the team; he is merely a lifelong, die-hard fan who has been horribly subjected to inappropriate scrutiny, blame and melodrama.

That is some hard core research, right there.

Not that I want to get into this discussion for the 100th time...but...

You cannot blame him for the loss; 9 professionals on the diamond should have had the mental wherewithal to not get flustered and distracted. However, to say he "had nothing to do with losing that game" is inaccurate. I believe if Alou had caught that ball, the fan-graph would have climbed higher and the other "Mo" on the field - momentum - would have carried either Prior or AGonz avoiding their mental miscues. Also if the Castillo foul ball is caught, Castillo doesn't walk, there are two outs and A-Gonz is think first base instead of thinking double play. A small difference, but a significant one.

Returning to my original caveat, however, the 9 professionals should have had the mental wherewithal to persevere.

Even without Bartman's intereference, there is no guarantee that Alou catches that ball. It was a difficult catch.

Somebody at a game thought that I was Bartman one time, I guess because we're both white and wear glasses and Cubs hats? Although that would describe like 80% of our fans.

EDIT: I mean the white guys in hats part, not the glasses part. Wheeeeeeeeeee!

So what happened when they thought you were Bartman?

Anything bad?

Nothing at all, really. I was sitting in the front row of our section, and they were a few rows back, and I could hear the one guy telling his friend that I looked familiar, and then a few innings later, he was like, "You know who that is? That's Bartman." They didn't say anything to me, though, and I was there with three of my friends while it was just two of them, so I wasn't too concerned.

ANyone who cares should be beaten.

This. I hope that, after the Cubs win it all this year, it's revealed that Bartman has attended dozens of games over the last five years without ever getting attention. Given his (highly respectable) adamant stance against garnering any sort of profit or attention following the incident, absence of a circus is the only way he would attend, and I hope it has already happened.
