I'm conflicted. If the Cubs knock around CC this inning, he probably gets the hook right away. However, if they have good, deep ABs, sprinkled in with a few hits, but ultimately don't score, Yost will probably leave CC in there for 150 pitches.

Which is better in the long run?

More runs is always better.

Ronny's a backup SS with a good glove OPS+ing 86. A backup SS with a good glove with better offensive #s isn't a backup SS.

A couple years ago he was going to be the answer at SS, not a bench warmer with one foot back in the minors.

Correct me if I'm wrong but wasn't that based off of one surprising good year in the minors?

Ronny was promoted aggressively, never showing that he really deserved it. In '04 he finally had a prospect-worthy season, but nothing special. In '05 he busted out, and held his own over 80 ABs in the majors at the age of 22. Cubs scouts obviously saw something in him while he was flailing away at a young age. There was much hatred spewed over his original addition to the 40 man roster, and it was really perplexing as to what was behind Ronny's promotions. He's obliterated AAA pitching in '05(at a young age) and '07(age appropriate)

I forgot about his AAA year last year. He had some really good numbers if I recall. Thanks for the info

But he's not playing everyday. He's not presently the answer at SS. He's a backup middle infielder. The 2nd to last bat off the bench. And for some reason waste a lot of time loathing him for the oxygen he breathes.

I think you're overstating most people's feelings about him, but I can't speak for everyone. For myself, I want better for this baseball team but nothing more.

The thing is, I just don't know what's better out there for a backup SS. I understand the desire to have a better right handed bat off the bench than Ronny or Reed Johnson, but they are our backup CFs and backup SS. They aren't supposed to be the big bats off the bench, it just happens to break down that way that our right handed backups are at positions where the backups rarely are great hitters.

That was a good AB.

You can't let this opportunity go by. DeRo really, really needs to capitalize.
