Jim Callis isn't as smart as Nate Silver but he also says we should stay positive:

Nick (Milwaukee): Brew Crew now within 1 game of the Cubs and streaking. I say that by this time next week the Brewers will be leading the division. Care to make a prediction on who will win it in the end?

Jim Callis: (2:42 PM ET ) I still think the Cubs will win the NL Central, with the Brewers grabbing the wild card.

it's not so bad, this arizona series.

if i told you before the season that we'd take 2/3 against the d-backs in wrigley, and 2/3 against the d-backs in arizona, you'd all gladly take that result.

well, sweeping the d-backs and taking 1/3 in arizona is the same thing, so let's all be happy we won the series 4-2.

and i apologize if the d-backs come back and win the cubs leading 10-3 late.

I mean seriously, 1985? Go look up their page on BR. Is there a single spot on that team that's better than the corresponding spot on this team? You've got Sandberg and that's it.

Everyone loves the 84-85/03-04 comparisons because of out of nowhereness and injuries to a pitching staff the following year derailing things. The better comparison is 84 to '01 in that they were 2 teams, that really had no right being as good as they were, and were prone for a fall off the next year because neither of those teams ever really shoulda been that good to begin with.

Despite Soriano being on the DL and a boatload of road games the Cubs are still in first place. Additionally, we a know baseball is game of peaks and valleys, ebb and flow, cycles. The current valley the Cubs are in is going to find the Brewers hopefully, it'll find them in September.
