so you met him and then followed him into the restroom?

creepy.

I saw Ryan Dempster come in and take a piss at the Flying Saucer on Main Street, but I was there first.

So he met you and then followed you into the restroom?

Nope. I was drinking there. I went to take a piss. While I was taking a piss, Ryan Dempster came in and took a piss. I didn't know he was there until I saw him in the restroom. I went back to the bar after that, had one more drink, and then walked back to my hotel. I don't know where he went after taking a piss, who he was with, or what.

you were drinking in the restroom?

creepy

Why do I bother....

On Friday right? He almost walked into the Ladies room, my buddies and I pointed out the Chimay sign..

can someone tell me how big mike fontenot is

5'8" max. And I do mean max. I am 5'11" and I looked like a giant next to him.

And no, I saw him in the restroom first, then followed him out, talking, and headed to the bar.

Also, Vance, Cotts was in the Saucer Saturday night with some HS friends from StL. Nice guy, likes Newcastle. Fontenot likes Miller Lite FYI.

We must have been in the bar at the same time.

I've been more than critical of him this year, but the past month or two he's really turned it on. When Soriano comes back, it'll be nice to have DeRo be able to give Lee, Ram, Soriano, or Fukudome some time off and have Fontenot be able to step in and give us some production. I'd really love it if he could figure out SS to a point where he's adequate enough to put there so we can give Theriot a day off every now and then and keep some production in the lineup instead of the black hole that is Ronny Cedeno.

One thing that's great about Fontenot is that his numbers seem to be better on the road (274/391/562). Not sure if Lou realizes that, but I saw that when I was looking at splits. For us right now that's a BIG thing....a boost we really need... \:D/

I always thought the guy got hated on a bit too much for a utility guy. He has been a pleasant surprise as of late, but then again, so was Ronny Cedeno a few months ago, so we'll see what happens. Also, it seems as though he and Theriot are at their best when in the lineup together, kind of like they're feeding off eachother. No, he wont be a starter anytime soon, but if he can manage to keep up what hes doing, he could earn himself a starting job in a few years when DeRosas contract is up.

Last summer Fontenot had that super hot streak for about a month. He looks to be going into that now, and your right he and Theroit do play well together. They are used to each other from college, and the bond is strong.

If he's hot, and the team is staggering, he needs to play now more then ever. Last year Lou was going with the "hot hand", he needs to go back to that. That's what got us playing winning baseball. No hit, no play..

I always thought Fontenot was terrible and had no place on the roster.

Last year he had a smoking hot streak too though. It's kind of hard to believe he's an .800+ OPS hitter "for reals."

So what, you can't say just one nice thing? At least yr name is appropriate.

Sorry. He is best player ever.

i love the little guy.

it's a weird feeling to see him at the plate with the bases loaded, and just know that he's going to come through. i was chuckling to myself when chip and harold reynolds were praising how smart the marlins were for pitching around daryle ward to get to fontenot.

yeah i was thinking the same thing... yeah, ward has a better reputation, but fontenot had a 1.203 OPS and something like a .460 or .470 OBP in july coming into today's game. personally, i'd have rather pitched to ward than fontenot, although the pitcher would've had to pitch to ward with a 2-0 count.

it's possible that you don't like fontenot because you're completely negative about everything, but you also could've fallen into the trap that so many people on this board fell into - they see a little white guy who's been in the minors for a while and think "there's no way this guy can play" or "lolololol grit." his minor league line of .291/.366/.437/.803 suggests the ability to get on base and provide a little pop. his median pecota projection for this year was .278/.353/.424/.777 - not great for a regular starter, but plenty good for a spot starter who can play either middle infield position.

he's been better than expected, but even at his expected level of production, he would've been a useful part of the team. and please everyone, let's start to understand that bat speed has just as much to do with power as size does. hanley ramirez is another good example of this.

25 pounds is a pretty big difference

i remember reading this last year... it was from the 2006 BP handbook (published after the 2005 season):

One of the first 20 players picked in the '01 draft, he's now a washout as prospects go. Fontenot would still make a better placeholder for an open second base job than a number of veterans, but it's going to take someone really desperate. Nobody thinks he's anything more than adequate afield, and scouts deride his long, slow, overly segmented hitting stroke.

and it surprised me, because it sure looks to me like he has a quick and compact stroke with the bat. i also remember breaking down some of the numbers and seeing that his K-rate had dropped from like 22% of ABs when he started in the minor with the orioles, to something like 12% last year. for a guy who doesn't has decent pop but not a great deal, that adjustment was really the difference between being a career minor leaguer and a solid backup at the big league level. his k-rate kept dropping and i thought maybe von joshua had something to do with it.

anyway, i'm glad to see him doing well. he certainly helped the cubs during soriano's absence and has proven that he deserves some playing time to give various players a day off.

I like Fontenot as much as the next guy, but are we sure the bolded is true?
