Man, what a freaking game.

Dempster. Jeebus freaking wtf. Thus far he is one of those great "if I only knew then what I know now" seasons of a lifetime. You go back to March 2008 and I will be the last person who bet on Ryan freaking Dempster being 9-2 with a sub 3 ERA on June 22nd.

Incredible game. Ramirez is on an incredible tear. I'm hearing the surname "Patterson" and not cringing in uncontrollable pain. 48-28. Twenty freaking games over .500.

I've lived and died with the Cubs since the day I entered this earth in the winter of '80. But damned if it doesn't feel awful freaking great to be a Cubs fan on this wonderful evening.

Soriano is down. Zambrano on the DL. And i find myself feeling more "hurry back" than "holy BLEEP" and that's a wonderful thing.

May not be a man who believes too deeply in any specific but I've seen enough in my 28 years on this earth to pay close attention 100 bleeping years after the Chicago Cubs last won a World Series.

Incredible time to be alive and as much as i live and die on whatever the current day in the saga of the Chicago Cubs is...go Cubs and I think the words never needed spoken more...Holy Cow...

For the third straight time, Javier Vazquez followed up a horrible start by Contreras with a horrible start of his own. The Sox had the pitching advantage in each one of these three games, with the advantage being really big the last two games. They crapped it away.

Another horrible performance against a ****ty pitcher (which is what Dempter is no matter how good he has done so far this year)

I loved the look on Ozzie's face for the last half of the game. Almost looked like he was trying to hold back tears. Any sweep is awesome, but its especially awesome when the other team has been running their mouths all week. Seriously, like half their team has had a stupid quote in a paper this week. Wonderful

Even forgetting the rivalry, sweeping a series against a first-place team is mighty impressive. This year keeps feeling more special all the time.

I know it's too early for this, but with their win tonight, the Cubs are tied for the biggest lead in the majors and have the smallest magic number, at 82. :D Edited by otis89

I just realized the top 3 records in the NL belong to NL Central teams.
Which makes being tied for the biggest lead all the more impressive.

Finally a WS fan with a lick of sense!

Maybe we can stop bitching about the smell & the rats & wishing happy anniversaries and get our minds on...oh I don't know...playing good baseball!!

I have to say thats unbelievable. (partly because i wasnt expecting the cardinals to be a contending team.)

If I were Lou, after the game I would've told the White Sox to put their money where their mouth is... After all the "Diarrhea of mouth" they've had for the past week.

Anecdote for levity though. When I talked to my dad right after the win tonight, his comment was "yeah, I remember being awfully pumped around this time in 1969..."

Lol, you were like 11 then dad. I assume you weren't as chemically altered during those games. Ha.

The Cubs have the best record in baseball by 2 games, and are still underplaying their Pythagorean by 1 game. The second best team in the majors by Pythagorean? The White Sox.

I wonder why ESPN didn't show this... :-k

a fan in the upper deck was heckling ESPN's Joe Morgan and waving a sign that read, "Ryno was better than you, Joe."

Link.

I want to have sex with that person.

Other than the series in TB, and overall road record, this has just been one magical half-season (up to this point).

We're doing it with the bats, pitching (for the most part), beating bad teams like we should, playing extremely well at home. Its just been a very fun ride for these first 76 games.

It is soooo nice going into any game and feeling like we have a pretty legit shot to at least be extremely competitive, let alone of winning.

Tell ya, Joe Morgan + HD on ESPN (FU Comcast, give me WGN in Hd damnit) sure makes for frequent use of the FF-1 option.

Typical pitch is "STFU Joe, stop right before pitch, PITCH". Hehe.

I remember going into the season many people were predicting the Cubs to win the division based more on the expected weakness of the rest of the division than the expected strength of the Cubs. As it turns out the division has been surprisingly strong so far, and the Cubs are still threatening to make a mockery of it.

The Cubs are 2-4 at home vs. the Brewers, and 30-4 at home against the rest of the majors.

:-# Beermakers! :x

That's alright though, we'll fix that stat with the remaining home games we have with them.

More notes on the Cubs home ridiculousness...

The Cubs have won their last 14 home games.

Their last home loss was...May 17, when Nate McLouth hit a 2-run HR off Marmol in the 9th, and the Pirates came back to win by 1, 7-6.

Before that, four days prior, to SD, when Marquis blew a 3-run lead by giving up a 4 spot in the 5th, and the Cubs lost 4-3.

Before that, the prior homestand finale against Milwaukee, when Wood blew a 3-1 lead in the 9th and the Cubs lost 4-3.

If they had simply held on to win those three games, the Cubs would currently be riding a 25 game home winning streak.

That's another point about this "magical ride" of a half-season... when the Cubs do lose, its by a run or 2 (save for the occasional aberration like the last night in TB).

They have lost 2 home games by more than 3 runs. 9-2 to the Reds, when Lilly was still serving up BP, and 8-2 to the Brewers, when Lilly was still serving up BP.
