Marquis has only thrown 70 pitches, so I'd leave him out there until he gets into some trouble.

5 runs through 5 innings isn't "getting into some trouble?"

I understand your point and I see what you're trying to say, but he's just going to get worse. He's not fooling anyone, and I'd like to not have to use Marmol or Wood today if at all possible. We've got Lieber.

Looks like he'll be in for at least 1 more inning, though.

What Vance is alluding to is that we have a 5 run lead. Marquis has only thrown 70 pitches (even though he hasn't been very good), but you don't want to use your bullpen up when you can get another inning, possibly even another two innings out of your starter because of the lead we have.

Now if he gets into some trouble, then you take him out and you go to the pen.

Thanks. That's exactly what I mean. If you can get another scoreless or one-run frame from Marquis, then you are set to use the bullpen in whatever mix and match settings you can.

Marquis is just awful.

Marquis came into today with an ERA+ of 105, which is pretty consistent with his last few seasons.

What more do people want from him?

And honestly, both the Dye and Wise HR pitches weren't terrible. As a ground ball pitcher, it's not like he got the ball up to them.

To be good enough that we don't have to worry about a 6 run lead when he is on the mound. Oh and maybe to hit his spots just once in a while.

Marquis can't be responsible for your emotions. His results say he's an adequate starter.

Take a hint, marquis. I'm tired. I need the day off. Soto's got the offense. Just go the distance today. High Five!

The boys in blue take on the bad guys in game two. Marquis can do himself (and the team) some serious favors if he can give us 7+ innings and keep his nice little hot streak going. My fear is the wind is blowing out and we'll have a slugfest on our hands. Gotta hope the sinker is working.

Go CUBS!!!!

He is our 3 for the next few weeks. If that doesn't scare the hell out of you then you have some kinda faith in our offense.

Agreed. I thought he had 1 inning where he was missing his spots, and that was the 5th. He was lucky to only give 1 in that inning.

The 2 HR's, especially the Wise one, were bad results off a pretty good pitch.

Overall it's been a decent outing. He probably should have given up 3, maybe 4 today. 5 has been a bit unlucky, but thankfully the offense has put up 10. It's just like his outing from last year against the White Sox. 8 baserunners over 6 innings, which is decent, but 5 of them have come around to score.
