Kevin Hart suffered a concussion.

RANDY PETERSON / Des Moines Register[/url]"]

Hart, the Cubs' starting pitcher, left the game after a third-inning liner from Raul Casanova hit him in the side of the head.

"They say it's a concussion," Iowa manager Pat Listach said. "He's obviously going to be out for a while."

Hart fell face down on the mound, laying motionless for a moment, as the ball nearly caromed into the first-base dugout.

That's scary. And it wasn't even the first line drive off of him in the game.

Let's hope he's alright.

They probably didn't want to put him on the DL and make an unnecessary roster move if Hill was going to be activated the next day. It would make sense to wait as long as possible. I just wish someone had reported what was going on.

Actually, does anyone know what the rules are for the minor league 7-day DL? Can a player go on the DL retroactive to 7 days previous and be activated the next day?

Official Iowa Cubs press release:

Iowa Cubs right-handed pitcher Kevin Hart suffered a concussion when he was hit in the side of the head by a line drive in the top of the third inning on Wednesday night at Principal Park. Hart was able to walk off the field under his own power and is expected to make a full recovery.

Hart was making his first start with the I-Cubs since getting optioned back from the Major Leagues on June 12th. With two outs and nobody on base, a line drive off the bat of New Orleans catcher Raul Cassanova struck Hart on the side of the head and rolled all the way to the wall of the stadium just past the first base dugout. Hart laid on the mound while team officials rushed out to check on him. Hart never lost consciousness, talked to Manager Pat Listach and Athletic Trainer Matt Johnson, and was able to walk off the field on his own.

Hart went to the hospital and doctors diagnosed him with a grade one concussion. He was able to talk with Johnson and his girlfriend on the phone after the game.

"Matt was able to talk to Kevin on the phone after the game," Listach said. "Fortunately it was a mild concussion. We're pretty sure he'll be ok, but we'll give him some time before we start thinking about when he's going to pitch again."

Very scary.

Jose Ceda is now the Tennessee closer, bumping out the struggling Michael Cooper.

At Boise, Josh Harrison is day-to-day with a sprained ankle and Tony Campana is out 4-6 weeks with a broken hand from a slide on opening day. Supplemental first rounder Ryan Flaherty joined the Hawks yesterday and is expected to play today.

Looking forward to seeing Flaherty suit up!

Jose Ceda time in Tennessee! He's going for the 4-out save today as he got the final out in the top of the 8th. Tennessee up 3-2 as we go to the top of the 9th.

2 runs for Tennessee in the first. Fuld tripled, Colvin singled, and Fox doubled.

Nice to see those three start hitting. I'm not sure I saw either get a hit the whole time in Mississippi.

I thought I heard that they were pretty offended by your scouting report of them last week.

And Ceda blows it in the 9th.

Strike out, ground single, ground single, strike out, RBI ground single, fly out. 3-3 in the middle of the 9th.

But Tyler Colvin wins it with a walk-off RBI single in the bottom of the 9th!
