I wonder if this is a weird enough situation where it's actually better to have a lesser talented, but fresh player out there instead of a better, but exhausted player?

well depth would absolutely be an advangtage.

i cant imagine playing tomorrow. i remember as a high schooler, with 32 min games, i hated back to back games. i even hated practice the next day.
