I think it's been discussed on here before that the committee won't put the two black colleges (SWAC and MEAC champions) against each other in the play-in game even though most years they're easily the two worst teams in the tournament.

In the "things that likely only interest me" category...the media had their third annual mock selection committee last week, and developed this bracket.

 

The whole process was live-blogged last year. Describes the entire selection process, from start to finish. I found it really interesting.

 

Good read. It seems they like to go overboard with the conference tournament upsets in these though. When Cornell is getting an 11 seed this year you've probably gone too far.

 

Yeah, they picked UC Riverside to make it out of the Big West and they're between the fourth and sixth best team in the conference.

A couple of the rules the committee had from that process that I didn't know about before:

- The top 3 teams in each conference can't play each other until the Final Four.

- The play-in game cannot be between two traditionally black colleges (this one seems weird to me)

 

I really like the break-neck pace of all the "vote eight"s. Wonder if I can duplicate that online this year.

We're really lucky that Penn St. has played like the old Penn St. so far.

 

And for Truffle, that was a nice 2 possession exchange where Brock fouled the PSU shooter, didn't get it called then Tisdale got a touch foul against PSU on the offensive end.

 

Though, to piss you off, how bout that possession where the Penn St. guy jumped up dropped the ball and picked it up and they called a jump ball. And then Cornley followed it up by taking 12 steps in the lan.
