Holy crap, Blair and Young are beasts.

And Lavinesque is a horrible adjective. Blech.

Can I get a rundown of the Lavin tenure at UCLA? I know everyone pretty much hates him there because he wasn't God or John Wooden, but why, exactly? I understand UCLA is a top notch program, but what did he do (or not do) that makes him so reviled in Westwood?

His players didn't get paid.

Until they get an arena not paid for with such blood money, the basketball team should stop showing up to all games, rather than just the 1 against Illinois every year.

did they ever decide if they were building a new assembly hall or renovating the current one? (serious question)

Economy has delayed the decision further. It looked like the plan was going to be a renovation during either the 10-11 or 11-12 season with the team playing elsewhere for their home games(Peoria, Chicago, Bloomington maybe? can't remember all the possibilities) This was a cause of concern with some fans cause 2010 is when the big boys come in (Richmond, Head, Leonard) and they didn't want them playing away from home for a full season ruining their hopes.

I'd imagine when by the time things get turned around our AD will leave it to the next guy to undertake.(Guenther's contract is up in 2010, and he's getting up there.) Out my ass guess, new stadium built for '14-'15

whenever the aliens come back for it.

Architectural marvel!

He was a horrible coach and teacher (from all accounts, his practices were basically pick-up games with no actual coaching). His most talented players never came close to reaching their potential and all his teams underperformed by a wide margin. His recruiting dropped precipitously after the first few years (when he was living off the 1995 national championship).

And when fans, alum and media started calling him out, he said UCLA fans weren't satisfied unless they won national championships and needed to lower their expectations (this wasn't the reason most UCLA fans were upset with Lavin; some fans still need to become more realistic but this was complete BS to try and deflect the criticism).

Baron Davis said it best when he was practicing at Pauley with the Warriors last year: "We should have a banner up there: the only team to make the tournament without a coach."

Wow, that's pretty heavy. So, he's like the Pat Kennedy of the West coast? Got it. I assume you think DePaul should pass? Although I'd take anyone over Wainwright at this point, including Kennedy. I feel dirty even saying that.

I thought his biggest problem was Baron Davis and JaRon Rush going pro after their sophomore years. Those guys stick around and Davis actually stays healthy and who knows what they do.

JaRon got some really bad advice.

OMG. He has a stress fracture in his back? OMG. I can't believe. OMG.

Who? I'm watching the Purdue MSU game, and I don't think they've mentioned that.

Have you had the game on mute the whole time? :)

They mention Hummel and his back fracture every 5 minutes.

The last time I saw him, about a year ago, he was working at a Sprint kiosk in the mall here. Too bad I thought he was the most talented Rush.

You're gonna look so dumb when he wins the player of the year award.

That was better than anything they did in the non-conference schedule. That was their best game all-year.

Best half of any game that's for sure. Defense just took over in the second half.

The Davidson game as a whole I put just behind this one and maybe right with it. 21-0 run to start that game just sticks out to me.

Yeah, the 21-0 run was great, but if you figure in the quality of the opponent I'll take this game. I'd rest Hummel against IU this weekend and get ready for Michigan/OSU next Thursday/Saturday.

He couldn't recruit after that Rush recruiting class (Rush-Gadzuric-Moiso-Barnes-Young). Only one Gadz and Barnes came near their potential, and that was in their senior year.

And Baron left because he couldn't stand Lavin (that and he didn't want to risk re-injury).

I never take IU for granted no matter what. Big rivalries have a way of making mismatches turn out to be close games. I would play Hummel. If at half you got a double digit lead take him out. If you go in saying he won't play and you end up needing him your screwed because he didn't warm up or anything.
