Apparently it's illegal to breathe on Jamelle Cornley. He got the same treatment out there last year.

he gets that treatment against most teams, but that's more because he's stronger than everyone. not that it does him any good since he's a bricklayer at the free throw line.

Jermain Davis is running for a loose ball, gets hip-checked to the floor by Pringle yet gets called for the foul and 2 free throws for Stanley.

that's not exactly what happened but it should've been a no call.

I think it's fairly accurate. He was leaning and they were both in contact with each other. Then Pringle threw a shoulder and hip into him and knocked Davis to the floor. Yet Jermain gets the foul? That was an awful call and an automatic two.

the iowa guy reached in and held pringle back after poking the ball away - a call would've actually made sense there. after that it was just a loose ball. it was an awful call but it really shouldn't have been called a foul either way.

they're calling everything too close once again, which is obvious when the whistle blows and everyone is looking around trying to figure out what the hell the call is.

17-3 after last year. How bad were Shaun Pruitt and Brian Randle?

They weren't bad college basketball players, they just weren't a good fit for a motion offense. I'll always be a fan of Brian Randle cause he was a genuinely nice guy every time I talked to him, and took way too much flack for his play.

Beyond Brian and Shaun not fitting in the motion, Frazier spent most of the year hurt, DMac, Davis, and Tis were developing as freshmen, and we were a tremendously unlucky team.

I always said last year's team was not nearly as their record showed, but even my most optimistic estimate had us as an 11 seed in the tourney. This has been pretty amazing.

Yeah this has really made me rethink my opinion of Weber. I definately am glad he's our coach as I think our team, while very improved, has no buisness being 17-3.

randle was a heckuva defender though. except for those 2 dumb fouls he would get 40 ft from the basket every game.

big props to weber this year. just think if we had a legitimate post player?

Just think if EJ would have just decommitted right away and we could have got one of Manny Harris or E'Twaun Moore who were both rumored to be leaning our way. :banghead:

We might not have Davis in that scenario.

That's true.

Well this should knock PSU out of the NCAAs. The Big Ten might wind up with a poopload of NIT teams.

OSU, UM, Wisky, PSU all have some work to do(in that order: OSU would probably be in today.) That's not to say the top 4 are locks, but they pretty much just need to avoid meltdowns and they're in.

well the terrible calls are going iowa's way now. see, it evened out!

that's pretty much what you have to hope for in a game involving ed hightower. you know the officiating is going to be horrendous, you just have to hope that both teams get screwed equally.

yeah I make it a point to not complain about the refs because it (almost) always evens out. PSU is going to get a couple calls soon. Hopefully we can withstand the coming run.

Just shows once again that you can't have an off-night in the Big Ten and expect to win anyway, except against Indiana.

i still can't figure out what penn state's game plan was coming into this game. battle and pringle are quicker than anybody on iowa, and cornley is better down low then anybody on iowa. so let's shoot more threes than any game we've played this year.

despite playing horribly for 36 minutes, you have to give PSU respect for not laying down to die when down 14

yeah they got lucky and avoided the "bad loss"

hopefully they'll go into their next game with some sort of coherent game plan. they shoot the three pretty well but there's no reason they should be firing up 60% of their shots from behind the arc.

*sigh* it seems like we are the only team that blows 15 point leads in the 2nd half several times a year. even lute olsen and tom davis did it all the time.

PSU now alone in 4th in the Big Ten behind MSU, Illinois and Purdue. They've certainly taken advantage of what has been a favorable first-half BT schedule, but they've also still won games they weren't expected to, like against Purdue.

Of course, the schedule kicks up in difficulty right about....now.
