Michigan's not going to make the tourney. They live and die by the 3 and more times than not its gonna kill you. I couldn't believe that they didn't make halftime adjustments because Illinois' perimeter D was awesome all night.

Oh well 13 straight years without making the NCAA tourney for Michigan. I was only 12 when they did it. Now I'm 25 :(

shut up, you know they'll be in.

Why do I know they'll be in?? They were 16-4 at one point in 06-07 and didn't get in, they were 16-3 the year before and didn't get in. This is Michigan. When you haven't made the tourney since 1997, its hard to envision, especially when we've still got by far the hardest part of our Big 10 schedule to go. We've already played Indiana and Iowa once. I just won't believe it until I see it, especially when I saw how we played today.

i'm sure that illinois is a tourney team and michigan is just about even with them.

i forgot to mention that beilein's style does better when the opposing team doesn't know how to perimeter defend, and unfortunately, most teams in the big ten do play good defense. penn state and northwestern are the only teams that play lousy defense, at least most years.

So Michigan somewhat matched up with Illinois in the 2 games they played. Doesn't really cause me to jump for joy. I watched the game with my Illini fan roommate, and its funny how a fan of a successful program thinks, as he without hesitation said Illinois will make the tourney. I've seen Michigan have better starts than this and not make it so I'm not holding my breath.

Exactly. Illinois played perfect D against Michigan tonight. Michigan couldn't do anything offensively except hoist up contested 3's. They didn't adjust their game to get more action in the paint.

michigan's best non-conference wins:

2008-09: neutral vs ucla, home vs duke

2007-08: vs davidson, @miami (ohio)

2006-07: @notre dame, vs miami (fl), vs butler

2004-05: vs nc st, vs butler, vs ucla (who was BAD that year)

don't discount the mileage they'll get from those wins over duke and ucla. duke will be a top 10 rpi team at the end of the year and ucla will be top 10-20. most other years michigan was losing all their big OOC games, and losing most of them pretty badly too.

of course, if michigan craps the bed and loses 8 of their last 12 or something, it won't matter. they'll also need to win a few road games; so far they've only won one and it was an OT win over indiana, who is obviously terrible. even if it's road wins over teams like northwestern and iowa, they need those.

Well that's the point, I feel like Michigan is going to go on a free fall at some point as teams figure out how to stop their one dimensional offense. At that point, the wins over Duke and UCLA will be long forgotten and dismissed as a bad shooting night (by Duke) and a team that hadn't gelled yet (UCLA)

Michigan only gets Indiana once this year too. They probably need 6 more conference wins to have a chance. And that might take a couple Big 10 tourney wins as well.

They have 6 remaining home games(OSU, NU, PSU, MSU, MN, PU) They've got 2 winnable road games (Iowa & NU)

Gut instinct I say they just miss it.

Notre Dame hasn't lost a home game since February 2006, so I'm fairly confident Michigan didn't beat them at the Joyce in 06-07. I think the last time the two teams played in the regular season was 04-05 in Ann Arbor.

Michigan beat them at the JAC in '05-'06.

How is this already on the 2nd page?

Anyway, big win for Illinois last night. I was worried after watching the 1st half and didn't get to see the 2nd. I'm a little concerned about the regression from Davis and Chet the last few games other than IU.

Davis has tonsilitis and is only a sophomore, I expect inconsistency. Chester's game last night was pretty awful. Just some really dumb decisions. Stuff he hasn't done all year.

Wow, I knew they beat us at the JACC but I didn't think it was that year - that same year they beat us in round 2 of the NIT.

I really want to win this game this weekend. Then I want to see the justification for us not being ranked.

What a joke. Seriously they are not anywhere close to a good basketball team.

Maybe Iowa has a shot on Sunday :good: (but not really, Purdue will beat Iowa)

Probably at home, but I would not be surprised to see Iowa beat us at Iowa.

intentional foul? there's another ed hightower special.

Yeah, there have been some terrible calls both ways. Some ticky tack calls.

what i've seen of the 2nd half has had an amazing amount of non-shooting fouls while everyone is getting mugged in the lane with no whistles
