it has been a scary month or so here. seven people died in the parkersburg tornado and apparently there were fatalities tonight when another tornado went through a boy scout camp. we've had tornado warnings/watches nearly every day for the last week or so. the river is dangerously close to overflowing and it's supposed to rain A LOT over the next couple days.

the cedar river in waterlooo, ia crested at 25.4 feet yesterday; the previous record crest was 21.9 feet, and records go back (from what i can tell) about 100 years. that's crazy. it's an ugly situation in the upper midwest and they're going to get a whole lot of rain tonight into tomorrow.

how is the des moines airport? I'm suppose to fly out of there on friday.

There shouldnt be a problem with the airport. It is far enough away from any water to be ok. It will be busy though as we have NCAA track and field championships being hosted in Des Moines through the 14th.

the airport is fine, but fleur dr, a road that lots of people take to the airport is underwater. there are obviously other ways to go.

Fridays game is now postponed, and the way they were talking they wouldn't play here all weekend, but I haven't heard anything definite about Sat or Sun yet.

I was just watching CNN live and they showed a live picture of Des Moines and not looking good for Principal Park. The water is sitting just outside the field and they are expecting the river to crest even more. It was tough looking at the pics of Cedar Rapids are and our thoughts and prayers are with everyone.........

i was surprised to see marshall and dubois standing outside the hotel fort des moines this afternoon because i thought they were going to play these games at a different field...what happened to that plan? anyway, principal park is literally an island right now. much of downtown was evacuated today.

man that's gotta be weird. i know minor league crowds aren't massive, but playing pro ball, one would get used to playing before at least somewhat of an audience every game.

The game took place in an empty stadium, because the downtown evacuation order kept fans from getting to the game.

 

Principal Park was surrounded by water on Friday, but the waters receded enough so Saturday's game could take place. But because the evacuation order remained in effect at game time, only team employees and major league scouts were allowed through the gate.
