Boras is well represented next year - though it's early to know who will be advising who among prep prospects. IIRC Boras represents Andy Oliver, Robert Stock and Alex White are being advised by Boras. Mike Minor I am not sure of.

2. Mariners: Grant Green, ss, Southern California

3. Padres: Dustin Ackley, of, North Carolina

4. Pirates: Alex White, rhp, North Carolina

Also:

To steal a phrase from BA columnist Jerry Crasnick, the 2009 draft is shaping up as the Scott Boras Olympics. Boras advises Strasburg, the top three college position players (Green, Ackley and Tennessee outfielder Kentrail Davis) , the best prep position player (Donavan Tate) and the best high school righthander (Jacob Turner of St. Charles, Mo.), among others.

I seem to lose my passion for the draft when the Cubs are picking so low.

Knowing Wilken will pass over one of my favorites in the first every year is starting to get to me...

Southern California lefties Tyler Skaggs (Santa Monica HS) and Tyler Matzek (Mission Viejo Capistrano Valley HS) opened up their high school seasons this past weekend. Also in the link, some scouts compared these two prep lefties (and Texan lefty Matt Purke of Klein HS) to a Cole Hamels at the same stage.

Ask BA had something on Raley two days ago. Link

Raley projects as a late-first-round or sandwich pick as a lefthander, and as a second- or third-rounder as an outfielder. He has starred in both roles while leading Texas A&M to first place in the Big 12 Conference. He's 7-1, 1.92 with 75 strikeouts in 71 innings as the Aggies' Friday-night starter, and he's batting .326/.455/.458 with 21 steals as their No. 2 hitter.

On the mound, Raley shows three solid pitches (an 88-93 mph fastball, along with a slider and a changeup) to go with fine command and a clean delivery. Though he has slumped at the plate in the second half of the season, he offers plus-plus speed, a good eye and gap power as a hitter, as well as above-average range and arm strength in the outfield. He plays the outfield corners for Texas A&M, in part to reduce the physical burden of playing both ways, but definitely is capable of playing center field as a pro.

The two names that interest me for the Cubs in the early going are HS SS Jiovanni Mier and Sacramento State OF Tim Wheeler.

However, the two names that seem to fit the Cubs' MO in the early going are Wil Myers (HS C who is a terrific athlete) and AJ Pollock (Notre Dame OF).

Not questioning you in any way, Meph, but what are the chances Stassi actually goes that high?

I heard talk last year when they played Davis High that he'd probably get drafted in the first two rounds but that was last year.

What's his realistic range in terms of getting drafted?

It's a reach and that's why I put him there. I figured with the Nats picking Strasburg they may reach on that 10th pick for money reasons, and rightfully so. Stassi should be in the mid to late 1st round. Anywhere from 18-27 or so.

I don't think Wheeler has a very good chance of being there for the Cubs' pick. Mier can be, but he's a good candidate for the heir apparent to Derek Jeter the Yankees have been trying to draft for a few years now. If Turner isn't left on the board, I think they take Mier. Personally, I don't like Wheeler.

Honestly, Raley just screams BEANE. However, the A's only have one pick in the first 90 selections, so I don't think cost will be an issue for once. He just doesn't fit the draft pick. He'd a be a huge reach for the A's, but it's not unheard for Beane to do that to take a guy he wants. If Poythress isn't there for Beane, he's going to take a very long, hard look at Raley.
