How a few days and a change of scenery changes everything. a few days ago, The Cubs and Brewers were the hottest teams in baseball, while the Dodgers and Rockies were struggling to do anything.

Still, with some guy named Greg Reynolds whose 0-3 and an ERA pushing 6 on the mound for the Rockies, that games far from over, especially with the all mighty Russell Branyan on a tear.

- S. Schumaker tripled to deep center, A. Kennedy and A. Wainwright scored

- B. Barton ground rule double to right, S. Schumaker scored

- R. Ludwick homered to deep left center, A. Pujols and B. Barton scored

*shakes head*

Also, question to the pple who think the Cards will come down to earth - if they haven't done so by mid-June, when will they?

Do I need to go through baseballreference and find a list of teams with similar records through 60 games who weren't very good teams? I could probably find 10 examples from Cubs teams alone.

I'm guessing the other 60% of the season.

The Reds did it for about 5 straight years not too long ago.

The Brewers were 14 games over 500 on July 2nd last year. Less than 2 months later, they were under 500.

People act like the Cardinals are 25 games over 500 right now.

(Though funnily enough the first example that popped into my head about this was the 77 Cubs who peaked at 25 over on June 28th, and finished at 500.)

Im not going to lie, while Id rather the Cards lose, I dont mind if they want to keep the Astros downword spiral going strong.

I do believe they will com down to Earth, but it may not be the massive collapse that we're expecting. They may be on our tail for the rest of the season, and the Brewers may also get hot and then stabalize. Running away with the division would be nice, but it might not be in the cards(unintentional pun). If the Cubs want to make it happen, the baseball Gods are going to make them work for it.

Funny thing about the 2007 Brewers...they built up their record on a heavy home schedule with lots of sub .500 teams.

Wonder if a similar thing will happen to this years Cubs if they prove that they can't win on the road consistantly like they have so far.

3 teams currently have a winning record on the road. Wonder if the Red Sox fans are freaking out over their road record.

The Brewers built up a good record by being lucky with regards to wins and losses compared to their peripheral numbers.

I guess we'll also ignore that of that 24-10 record they were 8-5 on the road

Yup, and due to a heavy home schedule and good home field advantage, we've been able to build up a lead. Now we are going on the road more, and things will eventually even out. I hope I'm wrong, and I know that we're better than we've been in most years. But I don't think we are the unquestioned best team in the NL.

Also, I predict the Dodgers make the playoffs this year if they can get one impact bat (which I realize isn't easy). Their pitching is really freaking good.

People are really blowing this road game thing out of proportion. The Cubs, after losing 3 of 4 on the road, are tied for the 4th best road record in the NL. We're not the Braves(25-9 at home, 7-21 on the road).

UMFan fears success, we'll be 30 games over 500 in September and he'll be talking about it's not a team that can win in the playoffs.

as they were sayin last night, the majority of the NL has been having road troubles, and the Cubs actually have the 3rd best road record in the NL. As for the '07 Brewers vs. the '08 Cubs, the Brewers had early hot streaks from Hardy, Hall, Weeks, and Estrada, but in the end, they fell off and Braun, Fielder, and Hart were the only ons who could out the bat on the ball. We have a lot of established stars on this team. We should be OK in the long run.

Seriously. The Cubs and Cards have played the same amount of home games. The Brewers are well on their way to being 13-20 on the road.

I do fear success.

My problem is I don't have perspective....sorry for the pessimism guys. I've tried to change it, but I've realized that its who I am and I've embraced it. :)

The '08 Cardinals have started their season 36-27

The '07 Reds (Final record 72-90) had a 63 game stretch where they went 36-27.

(This isn't to say the Cardinals are a 72-90 level team, just pointing out that these runs happen, but since this one's happened at the beginning of the year, everyone freaks out. And the time to freak out was a month ago when the Cardinals were 9 games over, not today, a month later when they've done nothing but tread water.)

The Difference between the '08 Cubs and the '07 Brewers, and '07 Reds is that none of them were expected to do anything and those stretches proved to be flukes, where as the '08 Cubs have been labeled one of the best teams in the NL since pre season. Hopefully the '08 Cards can join the '07 Reds and Brewers.

I have no clue what you just said there.
