Anyway, I would not worry about the Brewers this year. Yost is not the brightest bulb in the Managerial Tool Chest and they have an injury-prone pitching staff. Not a good combination if they want to play in October.

 

Getting the to stat analysis earlier in this thread, while this year's numbers compare favorably to last year's numbers, I put little stock in them because, in baseball, things can change quickly. Look how quickly the Tigers went from 119 losses (2003) to the World Series (2006).

 

I don't think people are writing off the Brewers for future seasons. I feel good about this season because of the Yost factor. I was glad to see them win that Cardinals series back in May because I saw the Yost firing coming with a sweep there. The Brewers finishing about 5 games back of the Cubs this year is probably the best thing that can happen to the Cubs cause it might just get Yost a long-term extension.

I'm not writing the Brewers off for future seasons, but I'm not fearing them either.

 

They have some great young hitters. Congratulations, that gets you to "not suckiness."

 

They have a few live young arms, but so do 29 other organizations.

 

They have major defensive problems, they have no bullpen, and I don't see either of those being rectified anytime soon.

 

Their future playoff success is a couple starters, a couple relievers and perhaps a position player away. They could do it, but that doesn't make them anything to fear in my book.

I a not sure that I agree. That team is really talented, perhaps enough to overcome a not-so-wonderful manager. They scare me far more than either the Cards or Stros.
