The return of Russell the Muscle.

TOM HAUDRICOURT / Milwaukee Journal Sentinel[/url]"]

The second move came after the game, when the Brewers called up veteran third baseman Russell Branyan from Class AAA Nashville. Manager Ned Yost said he planned to start Branyan today in place of Bill Hall, who has struggled badly against right-handed pitchers.

Branyan, who left the Nashville club in Memphis earlier in the evening to drive back and get his belongings, was batting .359 in 45 games with 12 home runs and 36 runs batted in. He accumulated 12 doubles, a .453 on-base percentage and a .693 slugging percentage.

"We're just looking for another left-handed bat," said Yost, who has had just one left-handed hitter, first baseman Prince Fielder, in the starting lineup on most nights.

"Branyan's been swinging the bat well. We'll see what he can do."

Tony Gwynn Jr is to the Brewers as Felix Pie is to the Cubs.

In a way in that they're not really like each other at all.

I was referring as to how their organizations are treating them and not letting them get consistant playing time at the major league level while loosing at bats to over-the-hill inferior players (Mike Cameron). I wasn't trying to compare Gwynn and Pie straight up.

Really? You made an analogy where they were equivalent. Gwynn is a 5th outfielder at best, he has a minor league OPS under .700 and he wasn't young for his levels. It's borderline that he's a major league player, which is why it doesn't equate to the Pie situation.

EDIT: Gwynn better than Mike Cameron? Not unless Gwynn gets to hit off a tee.

I thought Gwynn Jr was about 3 yrs younger than he is...that puts the argument in a whole different perspective. Nevermind.
