I feel bad...Soto really doesn't deserve to make the team.

He's still second among NL C's in OPS. He deserves to make the team, at the very least, as a backup. Him getting in as a starter isn't a very big upset, either.

I don't know much (anything, really) about McCann's abilities defensively, but you might be able to argue that Soto's ability behind the plate evens the playing field a little bit more between the two than you might think. FWIW, Soto has a slight edge in CS%...

as many games as ive been to and as much time i spend online, you'd think i'd have made time to vote at least once

So DeRosa is second in all-start balloting (even though I think Dan Uggla should be second) for second baseman....is he going to make the team?

no he's the one that will likely finish second and have no shot at being the backup. At this point of the season Uggla is an MVP candidate. Not the leader but up there.

So after the leading vote getter at each position (aside from outfield), it is up to the manager to fill out the rest of the spots?

The players get to pick some of the players through voting of their own, the manager fills out the spots to get the squad up to 31 (and to make sure that each team has at least one representative) and then the fans get to pick the 32nd player from a list of 5.

how about a link to the voting site?

Lack of options for the Kendall comment is the answer plus name recognition.

Who are you choices for the starting pitcher for the NL? I think it comes down to (as of now) Volquez, Sheets, and Webb. Dempster and Cook should be there as well though.

Vote for Fukudome!

As of the last update the National League's tightest race was for the final starting spot in the outfield with Ryan Braun of the Milwaukee Brewers trailing Kosuke Fukudome of the Chicago Cubs by a mere 32,925 votes. While the final offline votes continue to be tabulated, in the past 48 hours of exclusive online voting Braun has received 41% more online votes than Fukudome in what is shaping up to be one of the most exciting finishes in the history of fan balloting.

Hope you get to feeling better!

Half my office is off today and tomorrow so I spent a solid hour today casting votes with their email addresses. It's gonna be a shame if Brewers fans outvote Cubs fans on this.

So, I think we're looking at five All Stars in all likelyhood...

Soto

Fukudome

Soriano

Woody

One of Z/Dempster... possibly both, I supose.

I think Rammy was a lock before slumping the past week and then missing time. I don't see him making it anymore.

Word is that Braun and Fukodome did in fact go back and forth with the vote and their were hints during today's game that Braun may have ended up winning the vote. That may take Fukodome out of the all-star game completely.
