AZ Phil at Fitch

  • Gooz threw 14 pitches in an intrasquad game - 0.2 IP, 1 H, 2 R (I believe both were unearned), 1 BB, 0 K
  • Chris Huseby's control is so bad he can't retire a batter.

I really wish they'd report on why Samardzija's control has completely lost him. Is it because he's working on things, or has he lost the one thing he was ok at?

It just doesn't make sense for a guy with a walk rate well below 4 in every year of his career to suddenly lose it and walk the world for several starts in a row. Something doesn't add up, and it has very little to do with his other question marks as a prospect.

5 walks and 5 hits given up by Shark in the first 3 innings tonight. Predictably, he's also given up 4 runs.

the cubs really need to do a better job deciding on who to give large later-round bonuses to

AGH. Come on. I interviewed some tribesmen before the draftin a remote section of Papua New Guinea, they don't know what baseball is, but they said what every****ingbody else in the universe said: MATT LATOS. JORDAN WALDEN. LARS ANDERSON. Not another one of these assclowns only the Hendry regime has heard of.

See, this worked with the Angels because everyone actually knew who Adenhart was. He wasn't some jackass nobody that had us all scrambling for Google.

Excuse me I'm going to turn into the Incredible Hulk now.

It's actually really hard to give up 10 hits and walk 5 in 4 innings. Usually a guy that wild is so unhittable, because he's out of the zone so much hitters swing at bad pitches in order to even be able to swing the bat. But throwing that many out of the zone and then getting hit that hard when you do throw it in the zone is rare.

Opponents went 10 for 19 against Samardzija (2 outs recorded on the bases, one GIDP). For a line of .526/.625/.737 against him last night.

Somebody convince me that this guy is a legit prospect, because I'm not seeing it and haven't since he was at Notre Dame.

He's raw cuz he split time between two sports and is getting used to wood bats. Just repeat that for the next 5 years.

maybe someone can talk samardzija into going to the nfl

The Bears do need a WR...

Does anyone in the NFL have his rights? If so, or even if not, could the Cubs sell his contract to them to make up for the lost money if they decide that he isn't going to cut it?

yeah i really don't understand the late-round bonuses the cubs have been handing out. you don't hear anything about a drew rundle or a chris huseby and then all of a sudden "oh hey, the cubs gave this guy a million bucks." know who would've been a good guy to give a million bucks to? micah owings. but no, we've got chris huseby, a guy who can't get out of rookie leagues because he can't find the strike zone!!!

Owings or Lincecum or Greene... did they draft LaPorta once or not?

yes, 14th round. lincecum was just a late round flier; owings was a guy who could've been had if the cubs had ponied up somewhere from $500k to $1m, but they didn't.

jim hendry needs a "i went way over slot money, and all i got was chris huseby, drew rundle, cliff andersen and jeff samardzija" tee-shirt
