No thanks to Maddux. He was pretty bad for us before he was traded to LA. Let him enjoy the rest of his career in the NL West ballparks where his numbers can stay good.

Maddux was an above average starter all 3 years(His 2nd go-around) with the Cubs.

not 2006

Average ERA+ for starters is ~96. (Admittedly, not the best way to judge things, but it's quick n dirty)

I suspect in an honest moment, most Cub fans would admit that by midseason in '06, their expectations were low on the days Maddux pitched. I know mine were.

That situation is not going to be any better here in 2008. Especially not with the pitching-friendly months rolling out, and the hitting-friendly months rolling in.

Great as his career was, at this point Mad Dog's not really providing much value out there. I don't think he's appreciably better than internal options we have available to replace Marquis -- namely, Marshall.

And let me point out, I'm not trying to say we should get Maddux, I already earlier in this thread called it a horrible idea, but people love to write off Maddux's 2nd visit here as if he was a 24M pit of nothingness. He was probably worth exactly what his contract paid him.

He was horrible for the last couple months before he was traded. He was fine in 2004 and 2005.

So what. As a whole, he sucked in 2006. You take away his first month of 2006 and you can see just how bad he was.

Oooh, my turn, Let's take away...June!

The original quote was he was pretty bad before he was traded, and that's a fact. He was really bad from May-July, right before he was traded. He started nicely with 5 straight quality starts in April, but starting May 3 he sucked. He gave up 5 or more 9 times in those three months.

If Maddux continued to pitch that way(park-adjusted) after the trade, I could see it as a downward trend, showing he had lost it, but he's stayed a slightly above league averageish pitcher after the trade. I don't understand the relevance of isolating those last few months.

Avery still have an arm? Lets expand this reunion tour.

What ever happened to him anyway? He fizzled out pretty quickly.

I believe he came up with arm problems.

Didn't Avery throw a no no?

Avery never pitched a no-no. The Almighty Kent had two of them, though (one individual, one combined).
