I haven't seen a post on this as yet, but I thought I'd note that in the NL rumblings section of his 'Every Given Sunday' column on Baseball Prospectus, John Perrotto notes that:

 

Cubs manager Lou Piniella has just about lost all patience with outfielder Felix Pie, and the former prospect could become trade bait.

 

There's no sourcing, of course. I tend to doubt this, given what we know of the situation, but I thought it interesting nonetheless.

Lou was really annoyed about the HBP Pie had the other day. It's called hitting not being hit.

 

It may be possible that Lou wants a left bat he can trust and having Pie is not want he wants in that role.

Well we can't move Donaldson yet, stupid draft rules. I would probably try and throw in Marmol to sweeten the deal. That way when Rich gets things under control he has a spot as a loogy.

For anyone who is still worked up over this, remember this is Will Carroll. If it isn't injury related, he's the worst source out there. Remember when he scooped that we had signed Pudge? He has no inside sources for that aspect of the game.

This has got to be bogus. Although, I have no doubt he's trade bait. Who isn't? Well, expect Soto.

I highly doubt this is the case. Pie has been pretty good since they started working with him, and Lou in several interviews has been very impressed with his work ethic. It's just not the type of player who Lou would become frustrated with quickly.

 

I think it's more speculation based on the fact that Pie hasn't played much recently (because of his week off and then the rash of left-handers lately).
