Is it time to finally see what he can do and put Theriot on the bench as a sub that starts three to four times a week at 2B, SS, or OF?

I personally would like to see it because of Cedeno's defense.

It has been since, well, ever.

This.

Cedeno was the better player coming into ST, he was the better player on Opening Day, and he's the better player now.

He just has to keep performing in his limited opportunities to hope it gets noticed.

I don't know if I would say better player, but more talented for sure. He hasn't ever seized the opportunity though. Hopefully this time he is. He can also personally thank Soriano and his hop for the increased playing time.

if lou benches pie to play the hot hand in reed johnson, he better do the same to theriot to play cedeno.

Might have to wait seeing how hot Riot has been.

The entire team has the hot hand. I'm not going to bitch about anything at all.

Yeah, agreed. It would be one thing if Theriot was sucking but he's not. I say don't fix it if it ain't broke. If Theriot slumps, I wouldn't hesitate to hand Cedeno the job outright.

Isn't it nice to have too many players that are playing well, and not enough lineup spots? I can't remember the last time the Cubs had this problem.

yeah let's bench theriot and his .893 OPS.

He's got a ways to catch Cedeno's .957.

doesn't matter... you don't bench a guy OPS'ing .893.

But you bench the guy who's OPS'ing .957?

Considering the first guy has way more ABs, yes.

I just looked on ESPN.com, because it seems like a ridiculous amount of Ronny's hits have been big in terms of RBIs...

...Ronny, who has played in 13/20 games and has only 29 ABs this year, is nevertheless on pace for 155 RBI (in 346 AB)...

I don't even need to say how obvious it is that he won't keep that up, but that rate is far beyond absurd.

Screw that. Theriot just had a lucky/hot weekend. Cedeno is turning the corner for his career.

(That's only half tongue in cheek. I really, really like the approach I've seen from Ronny)....

Damn, this is a tough call. I don't stop putting Cedeno out there right now, though. Theriot is never going to hit for this kind of power. At least let them play up the middle with DeRosa filling in around in the OF. Jeez, who isn't hot - Fontenot?

This team is the balls.

And how much of that can be attributed to the inflated OBPs of the entire team right now?

Correct. The power that Cedeno has shown thus far makes him the clear choice. Besides the bomb he hit tonight, he has hit some really deep doubles that Theriot can only dream about doing, and hasn't even come close to doing in twice as many PAs. Eff Theriot's .893 OPS right now

Cedeno has more range at short, has a better arm, and has a better chance at being a good offensive SS than Theriot.

Exactly. Combo that with the power he's shown and he's the better choice.

I hope to see you guys carrying on this same argument in August/early September.

Doubt it. It would be a miracle if both of them are puting up competing numbers by then. Hell, it'll be a miracle if one of them is still putting up awesome numbers then.
