Thanks for the response. Great that everyone has different opinions on a varying array of topics, isn't it?

I'll talk to you at the end of the season about Pie.

Oh and no I don't have a say in the matter. It's silly that you even considered that. This is a message board, right? Where people exchange opinions, correct?

No I don't have a say in the matter and since you're under the opinion that Pie won't be going anywhere anytime soon, I'll make you a gentlemans bet that the "powers that be", are leaning more and more in my direction of thinking that Pie should be sent down to AAA. I'll bet you that Felix is sent down to Iowa by middle of May.

That's a great bet to make, because, as we all know, players are only sent down when they prove they need it after getting a fair shake up here. He might well be sent down in May. That in no way validates your post whatsoever. I can see you're already drooling at the opportunity to say "I told you so" when that happens, regardless of the fact that such a move doesn't validate your opinions whatsoever. You might want to have someone wipe your chin for you.

This is pretty interesting. Johnson is pretty clearly playing better as of now(475 OBP or whatever). But Pie has shown an ability to adjust at each level if he is given time to do so.

I still say that if we filled the hole at SS with a permanent solution we could live w/ Felix and his growing pains at the plate.

Cedeno is trying and doing a good job. Hopefully he can keep it up and Lou will recognize it fairly soon.

Yes, Felix has a long swing, but he is going to be fine. I think Reed Johnson is better in the lineup now, though. If it benefits Pie, let him get some AB's in AAA - Murton deserves to be up.

yeah the problem with this thinking is that until you let pie adjust to major league pitching, there's always going to be "someone better in the lineup now."

Nothing special, but not bad either. I don't see how that furthers either argument with such a small sample size.

That's a smoking .649 OPS. It's bad.

I'm sorry that there is a problem with my thinking, but as long as the Cubs are winning games with RJ in CF, I'm all for it. The way I see it, a player learns how to play in the minor leagues and has all those things worked out when he earns his spot in the show. I have no problem with Pie getting some OTJ training, but now when only 4 guys in the lineup are producing.

When Soriano, Ramirez, and everyone are settled in - that would be a good time to let him get the time to adjust.

you're right it's nothing special because it's bad. Ryan Theriot bad.

well luckily the phillies did not have this attitude with mike schmidt, or he'd probably have been just another hot prospect who flopped rather than the greatest third baseman of all time.

I'm sure that Pie is going to be fine. Maybe the Cubs should have given Choi another year at 1st base? Pie's defense alone would justify him starting.

"We're looking for offense, obviously. You need to score runs, and the guys who are hitting the ball are the guys who are going to play. What can I say?"

- Lou's justification for playing Reed Johnson over Felix Pie (via TCR)

Good to see 1 week of average play at best gets you tons more playing time. :|

Sample size. 18 at bats. If one of his 4 singles in 18 ABs turned into a double his OPS goes up 55 points.

That said, as we know, his career stats against RHs suck so obviously its an issue.

You see it wrong. A player doesn't get experience hitting major league pitching in the minors.

nor does a player who has always taken some time to adjust at higher levels learn how to adjust in the big leagues by staying at a level he's already proven he has mastered.
