Cesar Izturis has now played for 4 teams, and the Cubs are the only one of the 4 who didn't bat him in the leadoff spot at any time during his stay there. The other 3 have batted him in the leadoff spot for 1071 AB's, which is actually more than any other spot in the lineup.

That worked out pretty well for the Cards today too with all those runs they scored. What's that? They didn't score until the 9th when you could literally see the pee running down Valverde's leg? Color me shocked.

Batting 9th today...

375% OBP I have to guess that it will go DOWN..

or maybe it will be another one of them Cards Magic and his 298% career OBP will become 350% for the magical 2/3 seasons he plays for the Cards. Come to think of it i'm laying my money on this one.

 

On another note: I'm sure its on the board someplace.. but what is your thoughts on this position player hitting 9th?

You know, with our leadoff hitter (Soriano) it may not be that bad of an idea and it would give the 2nd hitter a few more RBI chances.. provided we can find a good number 2 hitter.

A hitter batting ninth is a good idea. The manager would have to sell it to whomever was chosen to do it, but stats show that it's one of Larussa's ideas that does work.
