poor ronny... he says that wrigley is his hall of fame, but you can hear in his voice how much it means to him to make it. boy i hope they do the right thing next year.

Yeah, he really deserves it.

Cedeno steals second, teh ball goes into center, and Ronny takes third.

Now it's a 3-2 count on Sori as well.

Demps walks the bases full. Welcome our #3 pitcher.

Lou coming to the mound.

At this point, I much rather pencil Lieber as the #3 and Dempster back in the pen. But seeing as Piniella has already announced his rotation.

People talk about the Cubs not having a true #2---for which I believe Lilly is a TRUE #2---the Cubs really don't have a #3. Dempster/Hill/Marquis/Lieber all are 4/5. Hill is the closest to bein a 3, but he struggles this spring, makes him a back end pitcher.

I think they're taking the biased (if not entirely optimistic) viewpoint that a #2 should really be a #1A. That's true if you're team wants to be considered one of the odds-on favorites heading into the season.

hill is better than a #3, based on last year's numbers. the cubs were dumb enough to try to make him pitch with a different delivery, though, so now he's probably screwed up.

dempster is going to be in trouble ALL the time. this is going to be a lot of fun, watching him.

If Hill pitches like his 2007 numbers again, i would mark him down as a three, but right now, he's no better then a 4.

So, how about a recap for those not watching?

Demps gave up one in the first on a couple weak hits.

DeRosa absolutely MURDERED a 3 run homer - sent it into th parkinglot.

I forget how they got their 4th run...

But then Demps allowed them to tie the game, and left with the bases loaded. Marmol came in and struck out the only guy he faced to save dempsters behind.

The cubs just scored two more this inning on an RBI single by Cedeno (after a LIX double) and a Sori sac fly.

Boy, Demp really demonstrated that he should be in the rotation by laying an egg today. Not sure why we'd take a guy who has started his entire career and put him in the pen, while turning our closer into a starter?

How far away was Santo last time? I want to say he'll get in, but I feel like I'm just setting myself up for disappointment because of a "select" group of ... word filter creativity engine started ... can we start calling a-holes "Nevins" a la "Rusch"?

Watch as Lieber throws a gem yet still gets tossed in the pen.

Wood is physically incapable of starting at this point, so he is completely irrelevant in this conversation.

LOL I'm dumb. forget I ever said this.

Do you really have to ask that?

Well, there you go. 1-2-3 inning.

I don't think Wood is incapable of starting. The same thing was said of Smoltz when he moved to the pen and he's returned to being a damn good starter.

yeah but smoltz was healthy for most of his early starter years. wood always had injury problems.

i really wish murton could add some loft to his swing.

I should say at this point in his career.

I don't think he could handle going 6-7 innings at this point. Maybe 2 years down the road he tries it again, but I don't know if he'd want to risk it.

Lieber being real quick and throwing strikes...I bet we lose atleast a couple games this year by wasting him in the pen and letting MArquis or Dempster getting rocked out there
