Should we be concerned about Manny Parra?

It's a good thing ST numbers are to be taken with a grain of salt, when I checked out his a few days ago they were awfully good.

I think a lot of people are not giving the Brewers enough credit. This won't be an easy year into the playoffs as some of the writers make it seem.

Yes we should. Probably not this year but eventually. I think they have high hopes for him.

 

As for the Brewers, you're damn right we should be worried. I actually think they are the slight favorites if both teams stay the way they are.

I haven't seen two teams more evenly matched on paper before. It will come down to a breakout player, injury or Yost.

 

Parra is the 3rd best pitcher on the Brewers but he has injury concerns and can't really go over 160 IP or so.

I see this posted time and again here, obviously based on the events of 2007. I'd be willing to wager, however, that his numbers will be nearer to .300 than .250.

 

Kendall's not gonna be the Jonah that many Cubs fans think for the Brewers IMO...

I see this posted time and again here, obviously based on the events of 2007. I'd be willing to wager, however, that his numbers will be nearer to .300 than .250.

 

Kendall's not gonna be the Jonah that many Cubs fans think for the Brewers IMO...

 

Who cares? He'll still have an OBP at best of .350 and a SLG of .330. And he'll probably throw out 15% of attempted base stealers as well.

sometimes defense gets overrated, but when people do "cubs vs brewers" and they forget about defensive abilities, they're making a big mistake. the brewers were atrocious defensively last year, and if they'd defended at even a league-average level, they probably could've won the nl central. while moving braun to lf will probably help - it'd almost be impossible for him to be worse out there than he was at 3b - they still have four very bad defensive players (fielder, weeks, kendall, braun). I'm not going to count bill hall since he's switching positions, but he was a bad cf and a bad ss, so it wouldn't be a surprise if he's a bad 3b too. cameron, hart and hardy are solid defensively, but in no way do they make up for the ineptitude of the other guys. their fielding could lose them the division once again, if it's a close race.

Sure, you should be concerned with Parra, he's a young pitcher and with his stuff could be the 3rd best pitcher on the staff. As was mentioned, he has to stay healthy and then take the next step of pitching in the majors as a starter and maturing on the mound.

Parra is an excellent young pitcher with a history of injury problems. Gallardo is currently injured, and Ben Sheets...well, is Ben Sheets. However, if all three are healthy, that's a really nasty combo.
