He[Freel] isn't demanding a trade, but if the Reds have no plans for him, he wouldn't kick a fuss about a trade. And there have been rumblings about a possible deal.

"You can't help but look around — I've been around the game awhile now — and I can look around and see what is going on," he said. "I can see what they're trying to do and, hey, they're going in the right direction.

"When you get to a point in your age (32) and you see what's around you, one second you are at the top of their list and the next thing you know you don't know where you stand," Freel added. "You get an idea of how they're using guys and playing guys."

Freel could be a RH part of Pie insurance. He's also versatile enough to fill in at third and second base.

Depending on what the Reds would ask for in a trade, Freel might be a suitable jack of all trades for the bench. He's not good, but he doesn't completely suck.

We have to make sure that any substitute CF the Cubs acquire is not good enough to play on a regular basis, thus forcing Lou to give Pie the shot he deserves.

Not unless he can play short.

can he? if he could, i'd say yes, right away. he could definitely play center if he needs to, to give pie a break. it would also give us an opportunity to end the great ryan theriot experiment. maybe we could trade him to minnesota, they seem to like players like him.

i'd trade for him only if he brings his imaginary friend in his brain that he talks to.

I wonder if Dusty told him he needed a little more seasoning on the bench because he was a little too young. Dude, Hairston can teach you a lot.
