I've been collecting off and on since '95 (5th grade), and over the last two years I've been very active on trade sites and I've been able to put together quite a collection considering my budget. Over the winter, I decided to scan my ENTIRE collection (1,300 + items), and I thought some of you might be interested.

I have it set up in two ways:

1. List (by year) - There's a "PIC" link next to each card on the list.

http://www.freewebs.com/bzickefoose1/sandbergcollection.htm

2. Photobucket (also by year) - Autos and Game Used cards are in their own galleries.

You can also see what other Cubs autos/game-used I have here (sorted by player):

Enjoy, Cubs fans!

Wow. I had no idea there were that many Sandberg cards. I was even more surprised when I saw how long the list was of Sandberg cards that you needed.

Any idea how much the collection might be worth together as opposed to just the combined Beckett value?

And I'm sad that I've never seen this great one before:

Very nice, now I can show my wife and prove I am not a freak.

=D>

I ONLY have 1000+ cards, 10 auto photos, 2 auto bats, 1 auto glove, 5 auto balls, 1 auto helmet, 1 auto ticket, 1 auto glove, 1 auto jersey and 1 auto home plate. The cards have all been put in plastic sleeves and interlocked and framed and make up 90% of a wall of my game room. Most of the auto stuff is in a 10' x 7' x 9" (deep) shadowbox.

That came with a small set of similar Ryno cards. I picked those up, jeez, like 16 years ago.

Yeah, the amount of Sandberg cards out there was at about 1,200 different when he retired in 1998, and they only made 2 new ones from 1999-2001, so it wasn't too bad. Then suddenly in 2001 the card companies realized there was a demand for retired players and from 2001-2007 there's been 2,300 new cards issues and most are expensive autos and cards numbered 1/1 (yeah, only ONE person in the world can have one). I dabble in the new stuff, but the old stuff is more fun, and finishing all of his playing year cards is a slightly more attainable goal.

As far as actual value, it's hard to say. Sandberg has a VERY strong following on eBay, and all of his autos get 45-60% of Beckett and most of his game used will get 40-55% (most players are considerably lower). A lot of the tougher cards from 1982-1998 will be anywhere from 40-1,000% (literally) of Beckett value. For instance, the 1984 O'Connell Ink is listed by Beckett for 75 cents, but I've only seen two on eBay in the last 2 years and both went for $15.

Some of the new inserts would only get 25-40%, so that brings the collection down to earth.

If I were to sell it all on eBay over the course of a year (you have to spread it out so you don't flood the market), I'd probably get $3,800.

Is that all Sandberg stuff???

Either way, I was thinking about getting a shadow box to display my retired Cubs autos, but I'm not sure if I want to do that just yet (not really an apartment thing to do!).

Yeah all Ryno stuff. Well, the home plate has about 8 other autos on it, but Jerome Walton and Shawon Dunston are the only other "memorable" names.

The jersey and shadowbox were courtesy of my wife our first Christmas together. She built it (with her father) and bought the jersey. Definitely NOT an apartment thing to do. The plexiglass front pane is a pain in the rear, and hanging the thing is a nightmare. My game room is in the basement though, so no worries about ripping a wall down. Just Ryno, Cubs, pool, & poker.

IIRC that 1983 Reggie Smith card had some extra value at one point just because Ryne was in it.

I started a small Ryno card collection for my daughter around the time she was born in 05'.

My wife allowed me the honor of giving my daughter her middle name, "Ryne". :yahoo:

That would make her by far and away my most prized Ryne possession. (no offense to my all time favorite Cub)

My son, Ryne, had my old Sandberg poster hanging in his room right up until we bought this new house. . . . . .Ryno was replaced by Alfonso Soriano. I put Ryno out in the shop with my other baseball cards.

You won't find a much bigger Sandberg fan than me, but I quit on the cards when he retired. I was always just a topps / fleer / donruss kind of collector :)

I always remember the day I met Ryno at the Albany Airport following the '05 HoF ceremonies --- super nice guy and super nice family.

Man, you have have quite the collection --- great job!

Every time I see your avatar I wonder how you did that with the color and black and white. Very nice.

That's my daughters middle name too. If my son (10 months) was a girl he would have been Wrigley Addison. But he wasn't so he's cbbryan jr.

i hope none of your kids hate you guys for giving them Cubs names

My oldest daughter is actually upset that I hadn't thought of Wrigley Addison before she was born. She really likes it. And my youngest daughter loves her middle name. It's better then Lynn, Sue, Jo, etc. (No offense to anyone that gave their daughter that middle name.)

Thanks a bunch. I love that pic; it is of a series of 15, but the only b&w/color combo. I wish I could take credit, but my best friend's wife is a photographer and she did it. We just brought the materials, as it were.

My oldest (step)daughter is a huge Cubs fan now and loves (and helped pick out) Rian's name. I came around when she was 3 and 1/2 and have, in her words, been "brain-washing her" ever since. She even claims that her first tattoo will be of Carlos Zambrano. I really hope not...

I was fortunate. My wife thought the name "Ryne" was unique and she loved it.

When we found out we were having a boy, I said, "how about Ryne David for a name?"

She said, "sounds great."

End of story.

Well, DUH! As a Cubs/Ryne fan, I could name my son (if I had one) Chester and call him Ryno.

Funny thing is my 20 month old knows her name (Rian, for Ryne) but in her stunted language it sounds like "Ryne."

you should call him Neifi when he's bad
