Z, not Lilly to start Opening Day

MESA, Ariz. -- Carlos Zambrano was just kidding about not starting on Opening Day. He wants the assignment, and Cubs manager Lou Piniella said Thursday the right-hander will get the start.

 

"He looks wonderful," Piniella said of Zambrano. "I commended him on his shape coming into camp. He's ready to go."

 

Pretty obvious, but hey, it's been a slow offseason.

I think it was a more a joke based on how he's tended to give up a lot of runs in April.

I know what you mean. I was tremendously disappointed in Zambrano's offense performance. I mean, really I expected more then 2 hrs and 5 rbis, and I was expected he would draw at least a walk. What kind of hitter is Z if he can only settle for 2 hrs, (when he had 6 in 2006)?
