33. New York Mets - Buster Posey, C - FSU

Originally recruited to Florida State as a pitcher, Posey spent his freshman year with the Seminoles as a shortstop only to move behind the plate as a sophomore. His ability to adapt easily to such diverse positions speaks volumes about his athletic ability, makeup and feel for the game, though he still needs to learn some of the finer points of catching. But scouts said Posey was easily the best in the Cape Cod League at catching, blocking and throwing, and the one catcher with above-average arm strength. He has on-line carry on his throws and unloads the ball quickly. His throws were a consistent 1.85 to 1.87 to second base. The most significant area he needs to improve is his footwork. He also must learn to receive balls better down in the zone. Though he has limited raw power, Posey has a contact-oriented approach and hits to all fields with wood. He made significant strides at the plate in the second half of the Cape Cod League season as he used his hands more efficiently while eliminating his shoulders from his swing. He batted .281-3-19 this summer after hitting .382-3-65 with 21 doubles in the spring at Florida State .

Nice. Almost went with Posey for the Brewers.

How come I always draft for STL and take Cavaliers?

Scouts who saw Adams in the second half of the Cape Cod League season thought he had the most polished bat in the league and were impressed with his ability to center balls consistently. Indeed, he was a much better hitter statistically in the second half and his surge at the plate coincided with a move from shortstop to second base. He hit just .213 and made five errors in 15 games at short to start the season, but he moved across the bag once Oregon State ’s slick-fielding Joey Wong joined the team late from the College World Series and became the team’s everyday shortstop. From that point on, Adams hit .352 and led the league with 14 doubles. Overall, he hit .302 on the season. Though he did not homer all summer, the ball jumps off his bat and scouts believe it’s just a matter of time before his power develops. He primarily needs to add lift to his swing—and could become another Jeff Kent-type of player once he does. He hit .372 with five homers in the spring at Virginia . Though he played much more relaxed at second base and turned the double play efficiently, he still made nine more errors at the position and topped the Cape with 14 errors overall. Scouts say he’s more than adequate in the field and mainly needs to improve his throwing mechanics as he has a higher slot on his release than most middle infielders. At Virginia, Adams committed just seven errors in 271 chances as a sophomore. Virginia has produced three big leaguer infielders in Brian O’Connor’s brief four-year tenure as head coach—Joe Koshansky, Mark Reynolds and Ryan Zimmerman—but the Cavalier coaching staff said Adams had a better fall season than any of those players ever did.

Another local boy for the Braves. I say we all do a top 5 for the Cubs like with pick 19.

Posted

I agree as far as a top 5...

I will say that given the Cards drafting of Kozma, there's a poss. my two picks would be more liked by the Cards fans than what they actually select, of course, internet scouting reports are far from valid.

My top 5:

1)Robbie Grossman, CF -Cypress-Fairbanks TX(HS)

2)Tanner Scheppers, RHP - Fresno St.

3)Brett Devall, LHP - Niceville FL (HS)

4)Brett Jacobsen, RHP - Vanderbilt

5)Ike Davis, 1B/OF - Arizona St.

3. Casey Kelly, SS - Sarasota HS (FL)

4. Shooter Hunt, RHP - Tulane

5. Nick Maronde, LHP - Lexington Catholic HS (KY)

Posted (edited)

Shooter Hunt's gone. Dammit you took the guy one pick before that I would have selected considering I had him at number two 15 picks ago or however many it was! I am not a big fan of drafting crafty high scoolers like DeVall and I certainly don't like the appeal of taking two HS pitchers 1-2, unless I think it's a knock your socks off steal. And I cant draft someone from Cy Fair. I'd like to go advanced college bat here.

1. Jemile Weeks, 2B - Miami

2. Chris Amezquita, SS - Servite HS (CA)

3. Jordan Danks, OF - Texas

4. Alex Wilson, RHP - Winthrop

5. Roger Kieschnick, RF - Texas Tech

Also consider Zach Putnam, Brett Wallace

Weeks has quality discipline, will stick at second, surprising power and good wheels. He'll hit for average as well. More walks than Ks might I add. Amezquita may not stick but his arm plays anywhere and has a good bat. Avery has plus plus speed and will have illegal range in CF. Danks could slide to CF.

Oops on Hunt. I do like Weeks too. Took out Maronde.

I already have the Twins taking Avery with Revere, Benson, Span, and Avery I figure they could have the surplus of fast OF'ers, Benson has great speed, but he's built alot different and alot stronger obviously.
Posted

I already mentioned Ike Davis at ASU as far as collegiate hitters, he's not as polished as Wallace but has a higher ceiling.

I was torn between him and Darnell at South Carolina as my last spot.

Posted
Cutter Dykstra and Buster Posey are the best names.
Posted

Unless something changes, it looks like it will be Robbie Grossman.

Grossman is a switch-hitter who is also a power/speed combo player, an inviting combination for scouts. At 6-foot-1, 195 pounds and extra strong, Grossman has excellent bat speed from both sides of the plate and the ball explodes off his bat. As a 6.5 runner in the 60, he can steal bases and turn doubles into triples as well. Grossman’s aggressive attitude on the field makes his bat speed and running speed seem even more impressive because he takes a full swing and runs hard at all times. Grossman led Cy Fair High to the Texas 5-A championship last spring, then steadily improved all summer on the showcase circuit. He hit .450 with a team-leading eight RBIs for the U.S. junior national team at the 2007 Pan Am Championships (a qualifier for the 2008 World Junior Championship) in Mexico in late August. He’s liable to get comparisons to former Houston area standout and current top minor league prospect Jay Bruce. He was an Aflac All-American.

Pass on Jungmann and you will regret [-X

I really like his potential, coupled with a very good slider and a good change.
