the problem is that citi field will still be in flushing meadows. i went to a game with my dad back in 2004 (we don't need to get into what happened on the field), and we left south jersey a few hours before the game, just in case we hit traffic. well we didn't hit much, and got to the field with plenty of time before first pitch... so our plan was to park, walk to a restaurant or sports bar, eat lunch and have a couple of cold ones, then head to the dump known as shea stadium. well, that would've been a great plan if shea wasn't surrounded by about 500 auto body shops.

(that is my biggest beef with the philly sports complex as well - the new venues are nice, but there's absolutely nowhere to go within walking distance of the park. very different than fenway or wrigley or camden yards, and not different in a good way)

i think the prevailing theory is "build the ballpark, and the restaurants will follow". How has that worked out at The Cell?

1) I'm eagerly awaiting the Rays stadium

2) Is the Minnesota stadium going to have a retractable roof? I can't imagine it being very conventional having an open roofed stadium come April/September when it may be below freezing/snowing

avg monthly snowfall in minneapolis is 2.8" in april and basically nothing in october. avg high/low in april is 56/36 and in september it's 71/50. it gets really cold there really quickly, but it's not the 8-month deep freeze that a lot of people think it is. cleveland averages 58/37 and 2.4" of snow in april and they play outside. denver averages almost 10" in april.

the twins will be fine playing outdoors. they'll have a couple of cancellations due to snow/cold, but nothing that other northern cities don't experience. in fact, you're probably likely to get more cancellations over the course of a year, and maybe just in april as well, in the northeast than you are in minnesota, since the northeast averages a lot more rain than the upper midwest.

I'm not sure that was the thought with Shea, considerng Flushing Meadows has been a complex for large events (i.e. Worlds Fairs, the U.S. Open, Shea). I might be mistaken but I don't think there has been a strong effort to build up the area around Shea/Flushing into a Wrigleyville type, or even Fenway type atmosphere.

Shea is still a dump though. The new stadium will rectify the generic feel of the current stadium, but it will still have the proble of low flying planes consistently overhead.

I don't get excited about a new park unless I'm going to attend a game there. This year I'm taking a vacation to California when the Cubs play the Padres and Dodgers, so I'm excited about seeing those parks even though they aren't new.

If I ever make it around to one of the new parks, I'll get excited. But if you're watching the game on TV, the park makes only a minimal amount of impact on the viewing experience.

Minneapolis and Cleveland have the same average temperature in April? Color me surprised. There are going to be some cold April night games in Minneapolis for the 10 Twins fans that go to those games after the initial shock of the new stadium wears off.

i hear they're building a new park for the Clippers here in Columbus. the old one is a total and complete dump

wish they would build a new park here, but the mayor has already said that the current owner will never be allowed to build a new park in nashville...fantastic.

btw, cooper stadium, their old ballpark, looks nicer than greer.
