Just a thought here...

I understand the desire to splinter off traffic for basketball and football into their own sites, both for overall bandwidth savings and topical discussion. However, it can be very inconvenient for the end user to be forced to three different and separate locations for discussions about sports among what is really one community.

So, I would suggest combining NSBB, WCFB, SCH into one all-encompassing "North Side Sports" site, and having a master forum for everything. This would allow a single Social/Rants forum, and then forums for NSBB (Cubs discussion, Other teams discussion, Baseball Game Threads, Minor League Baseball, College/High School Baseball, MLB Transactions), WCFB (Bears discussion, Other teams discussion, Football Game Threads, NFL Transactions/Draft, College/High School Football), SCH (Bulls' discussion, other teams' discussion, Basketball Game Threads, NBA Transactions/Draft, College/High School Basketball), and a "General Board stuff" of Social, Rants, Polls, Suggestions, Announcements/Rules/FAQ, and Events.

This kind of thing could even be split up between current locations, as long as it's "invisible" to the end user. I just think it would work better than trying to create three separate communities of discussion out of what really is one community of people.

Well, while right now it is one community of people I think the end goal is it for there to be three separate communities of people. Of course there will be people that cross over - those who are Cubs/Bears/Bulls fans. However, as the Bulls and Bears sites grow I expect that there will be many people who join who do not like the other two teams involved just as there are many here who are not Bears or Bulls fans.

All that said, I would support the linking of the three sites.

I've been thinking along these lines the whole time.

Great idea. WCFB is like a ghost town right now, anyway.

And it's pissing me off. Someone come talk draft with me while I'm bored at work during the week. Please.

This idea is what my roommate would deem "tube" (short for tubular, don't ask). I'd be much more inclined to talk bears if it was here.

Does the Bulls board even exist anymore?

I've been working on this for a while, but I haven't figured out how to do it. If I do get it figured out, I'll implement it.

Not really, there aren't very many posts there.

I support the combination of the three sites.

couldn't you just make everything at NSBB a subforum of "Cubs Talk", then make "Bears Talk" and "Bulls Talk" with their sub-forums?

The intergrating of separate boards is different from just making Bears and Bulls sub-forums on NSBB. Are people in favor of cross-linking everything or just moving them all to the main board?

Personally, I think just moving everything to the main board would be the easiest for both the posters and Tim. I'd prefer just having one board, myself. The original suggestion in this thread would certainly work for me.

I'd just think an "Other Sports" forum in the same section as Social and Rants would be work fine. If that was too cluttered, we could subforum it even further.

oh yeah, don't crosslink three domains. Just have a Bears and Bulls forum on this one and call it a day

I wonder if there is a feature for expandable sub-forums.

I do think having a few forums for NFL, a few for college sports, a few for the NBA, and one for other sports would probably be too much for the main page, but that would probably work the best.

there were subforums originally at WCFB before Tim re-did it

For sure just move everything to the main board. The other alternative would be too much of a pain.

i cannot endorse this idea. the nfl is lame, but the nba is the jose macias of american sports society.

I'm really surprised you aren't a fan of this one. With all the extra traffic coming in from the other sports, there's bound to be a few posters that try to branch out into baseball... and they're all likely to be pretty ignorant about it to start. Think of all the helpless little whelps flailing around spastically and spouting off nonsense phrases while you pound them into submission with a wall of numbers. It'd be six different kinds of fantastic, minimum.

Actually I don't think there will be extra traffic for the other sports. People come here first and foremost for Cubs talk. It's just that it's a large community with other shared interests. The football and other sports conversations had begun to dominate the Social forum though, and thus it was thought that separating it out would help. I think it's a bit too separated now though...people just don't want to go to another board to talk to the same people from this board about football. I'd be shocked if traffic increased.
