Has anyone mentioned Randy Hundley yet? That smooth, mouth-full-of-rocks voice really got me going.

Stoney and Hughes are 1 and 1(a) for me.

Hughes would easily be #1 for me, with Stoney coming in 2nd. I know this sounds terrible, but I couldn't stand Harry toward the end of his career. I actually enjoyed it when Thom B. and Wayne Lerivee(sp?) filled in for him.

I think Len and Bob are doing a fine job and it will be interesting to see if people's opinions change after they have been here for 6-10 years or so.

I actually made up a very not nice version of Take Me Out To the Ballgame near the end of Harry's career, essentially making fun of him. Though, I feel the same way about Ron Santo at this point. He lives & dies with the team, it's a crime that he's not in the HOF, but he has no business in a broadcast booth...though he does give Pat some great material.

Analyst-Joe Carter was pretty bad

Delino got stuck in the a-hole.

Carter: Ahhhh, Delino is going shaveless now!

To me, Harry is the best. Even in the later years, it just didn't get better for me. The most vivid memories of my childhood are of my mom and I watching afternoon Cub games and hearing Harry make the calls. I was always pissed when he'd go to the radio side in the middle of the game.

It's Harry Caray... no one else is even close. He's Top 5 all-time for all baseball announcers. The fact that we still talk about him 10 years after he passed awaytells you what he meant to baseball fans.

Len Kasper is OK, but remember he was the 3rd or 4th pick of the Cubs and not their #1. Some of his enthusiasm seems quite forced, but he does get on the players and manager-I'll give him that. A little better than Chip who must have gotten paid by the word.

As to Joe Carter, my favorite line was when he was talking about the large right field area in Florida. He called it "a carniverous right field". I also remember the day game in 2002 where John McDonough's teen-age kid was allowed to go on the air and do play-by-play on FSN. I thought that was a little over the top.

I just don't understand it. People never hated on Stone until that 2004 debacle between Dusty and him and Chip. Then people started disliking him. I never understood it. I've been around Cubs message boards since the 1999 season and I had never seen such mass hatred for Steve Stone until after 2004. I seriously hope people weren't influenced by Dusty Baker and his band of merry idiots.

Stone also acted extremely pompous towards the end there as well, he was being smug towards those players who had the confrontations with him. Stone went out of his way to being critical towards the players and it showed a lack of class.

Neither side, whether it be Dusty and the players or the booth handled it well during the fallout.

All time favorite is Stone. People love to talk about his pitch selections and predictions...but I liked him because he knows and talked the ENTIRE game, all the teams and he is one of the best teachers of baseball throughout his commentary that I have ever heard.

He knows GM's. He knew MLB teams, He knew MLB players. He knew other teams minor leaguers and prospects. He knew hitters hot zones and weak areas. He knew that Zambrano's sinkerball isn't going to work unless he tones it down to 90-92, knew that Wood's shoulder was going to be doomed overthrowing his pitches with his altered mechanics coming back from his elbow surgery, and that Derrick Lee's weakness in 2003(since has become a much better hitter) was away pitches. Told us all that Jim Edmonds is an easy out if you give him high inside heat, and that whatever you do-don't pitch to Cards sub Eli Marrero. Career .250 hitter(or something like that), but he kills the Cubs at Wrigley Field.

While guys like McCarver, Morgan, etc... are criticizing pitchers for missing their targets as the catcher holds the mitt inside while a runner is on base, Stone is the only one to ever point out that it is a purpose ploy---so that the runner on first or second can't relay the pitch selection to the hitters.

1) Harry

2) Brickhouse (he's the guy who announced my earliest memories of Cub baseball)

3) Stone

4) Hughes

I think that's about right. Len is climbing the list for me, we'll see where he is in a few years. I'm also pleasantly surprised at how much I enjoy Brenly. I'm a happy camper right now when it comes to Cub broadcasting -- I think they've done a good job putting together a couple solid booths.

Make Gus Johnson a Cubs broadcaster and he'd get my vote.

If Gus Johnson ever called a game winning HR in Wrigley in the TV booth, you wouldn't be able to hear Ron Santo over in the radio booth.

Harry's my guy. No question. Hughes would be number two. Followed by Len. Stoney's probably right after Len.

I've heard Brickhouse on recordings, but I don't remember alot of his games or he would probably be ranked in my list.

Worst Ever:

Joe Carter - Awful and it was even worse when he was teamed with Chip.

Chip Carey - His first couple years especially, but he had many annoying habits like the "Best Sports Show Period" promos. I just didn't like him much.

Imagine him calling either of Sosa's 2003 NLCS homers.

Dream teams for me would be:

TV: Len and Stone

Radio: Hughes and Brenley

Santo can hang out, sing the stretch, and have multiple strokes every time something exciting happens

Len Kasper is such an improvement over Chip Caray it's not even funny. While I like Brenly, I wish someone would hire him to manage their team into the ground so Stoney could get back in there. Kasper/Stone would be so freaking sweet.

My favorite Chip Caray boner was 6/19/04 when Barrett had that game winning RBI against Oakland. I think that was the game. So anyways, Chip is all, "the Cubs come back against the closer, that almost NEVER happens in baseball".

Pardon me?

Actually, I believe that was in a game against Houston where Brad Lidge blew a save. I could be wrong.

1. Brick- he was there at the beginning for me.

2. Harry- one of the great entertainers EVER!

3. Josh Lewin- I know I'm the only one, but I love the guy. When I first heard about him joining the crew, they said he was 'a self-described life-long Cub fan.' Good enough for me.
