The Cubs have agreed to player development extensions with all five of their Minor League affiliates. Triple-A Iowa, Double-A Tennessee, Class A Daytona and Class A Peoria each reached four-year contract extensions through the 2012 campaign. Short-season Class A Boise reached a two-year extension through 2010.

I was going to post that yesterday, but with all the discussion the past few days about Fukudome, Prior, and Mitchell, it slipped through the cracks. Mesa isn't considered a Cubs' affiliate? They weren't mentioned.

Are they just directly controlled by the Cubs themselves? It would make sense as the rookie league team where they send almost everybody at one time or another and they play where the team trains, correct?

My understanding is virtually nobody goes to Mesa games, whereas the rest of the minor league affiliates are all money making ventures that rely on crowds.

You're correct.

That's right; I just wasn't thinking about the different arrangement. The affiliates are owned independently but have an agreement with the Cubs to provide the players.

Sweet. I was planning on making it out to Peoria next year, considering I'm now about an hour and a half from there. :D

Boy did I make that drive a lot. I lived in Champaign for 7 years and made the weekend trip back to Peoria probably 20 times a year. I used to be able to recite every highway 74 exit, in order, from my house to my folks. ](*,)
