Should Brian Roberts be nailed on anything damning enough to warrant a 15 day suspension, that might really hurt his trade value.

Or how about not trading for him at all. I think DeRosa is perfectly cabable of handling second base.

By the way, I would like to repeat the more important queastion for this thread that I mentioned earlier but seemed to have fallen through the cracks.

What in the blue hell did John Kruk tip some guy in Philly $14,000 dollars for?

Ewww

Advice on how to Dress for Success.

And by Dress for Success, we mean the codeword for a beautiful Czechoslovakian blond who really really needs $3,000...a pop...

literally.

On ESPN, Steve Phillips and Peter Gammons went on for about ten minutes on how clubhouse guys run errands all year long for the players and that sometimes they would just give them a big tip like that at the end of a year. This would include costs for transportation, dry cleaning, side work that might need to be done, food/meals, etc. And since players make such large salaries, alot of guys would tip well. I know I would tip well if I had someone running personal errands to make sure everything is done right.

And no, I'm not that naive, just trying to remain optimistic.

You know what I think of when I see Roger's name? Him throwing the broken bat at Piazza. The guy was probably juiced to the gills. 8-[

i'm already so sick of all the former player/GM types on ESPN apologizing for the use of steroids. there is zero anger over this from this network

Why would they be angry? It's a ratings bonanza!

See, in my world they flip a coin and one of them plays shortstop. Can't be that much worse than Riot and the offense would make up for however much it is. Plus you'd hopefully have a better defender on the roster for late inning lead holds.

Sorry if this question has already been asked:

Would players who had bonuses written into their contracts for winning MVP awards, and who finished in 2nd place to a player named on this list have any legal standing against that player to recoup what could now be considered monetary damages?

Probably not. I'm no lawyer, but I did stay at a Holliday Inn express last night.

I wouldn't see why not, though. Although it can't be proven that the player wouldn't have won the MVP anyway without the roids, a very compelling case could be made that the player was given enough of a boost to win the MVP, thereby screwing the #2 finisher out of his $500,000 bonus (or however much it was), and probably millions in future earnings.

How unlike ESPN to cover for one of their own. Wasn't Kruk and Dykstra real good friends when they were on the Phillies? Kruk wasn't named correct? Where does the $14,000 tip come into play?

Hmm, 2 players that the O's couldnt get rid of soon enough. Good thing we didnt mortgage the farm for Roberts, and I doubt that Aubrey Huff can be too far behind.

there is a difference between being neutral and people like Phillips desperately trying to explain away why he didn't root out steroid use under his GM watch or Peter Gammons trying to shrug off Clemens' use of roids

I hear what you're sayin', but I don't want any ROIDS/HGH users on my team. If they've been a cheater, don't trade for them. And if Wood is really on the list, I'd trade him. Marmol can close instead.

Nah. I think that Woody has paid the price for his transgressions. If he is on the list. I would like to see him be up front and honest if it is the truth. Kerry Wood doing a little volunteered community service, talking about how 'roids helped ruin his career, is a damn good deterrent.

But overall, I think he has paid the price. At one time we were talking Hall of Fame. Now we're just hoping he has one more full year in him.

It seems like Roger Maris is once again redeemed, as it seems now that 61 will be once again recognized as the "clean" single-season HR record.

and 755 by Hank Aaron.

Yes. I'm sure that he'll be #1 again in the court of public opinion, regardless of what the stats say.

So when/if A-Rod hits number 756, will there be the media circus that there was for Bonds, or will they wait until he breaks Bonds's record?

Apparently they are handing out copies of the report to reporters assembled right now.

Looks like it (I'm watching CNN's live broadcast). Wonder who gets the "confirmed" list up first.

I wonder how big it is? How long will it take for them to go through and pick out the names, or is it in a convenient list for mass slandering?

Someone told me they were going to post the names on MLB.com shortly.
