Not that familiar with the Astros farm system, but from what I gather this is like us giving up Marshall, Gallagher, Murton, and Patterson for Tejada? If so, Houston got hosed.

No way it's equivalent, Houston gave up less talent.

Maybe something like this, in terms of current and former Cubs:

Matt Murton is close in value to Luke Scott (I consider Scott to be the better player, but he's older)

David Aardsma is a fair comparison to Dennis Sarfate

Scott Moore is a fair comparison to Michael Costanzo

Sean Gallagher/Sean Marshall are close in value to Troy Patton (Marshall has had MLB success, but also has more service time)

Ricky Nolasco is close in value to Matt Albers (I consider Nolasco to be more valuable)

Murton, Aardsma, Moore, Gallagher/Marshall, Nolasco

It's a horrible deal for Baltimore. They got a handful of roster filler. That's it.

Baltimore should have been working the phones with the Dodgers. At least the Dodgers had good players to offer. Who knows? They may still make a deal with the Dodgers for Bedard, but a package of Bedard AND Tejada would have made sense for both parties, IMO.

Ask Truffle if Baltimore is expecting a cold winter, maybe they just need the bodies for warmth.

I wouldn't be surprised to see a few of these guys be included with Bedard or Roberts.

But, not to be outdone in this bad deal is Houston. They essentially gave up necessary roster filler for a guy who might help keep Houston out of the cellar next year, but that's about the best they can or should expect. That's a lot of money to spend on a guy to finish 5th instead of 6th. Maybe Houston has a real plan for their rotation that I don't see, but right now it's beyond god awful.

Yup, I would have rather had ONE of the dodgers players than FIVE of the Astros.

Wow. I just looked at Houston's roster. Haha. They signed Kaz Matsui and traded for Miguel Tejada. They still have Chris Burke, they signed Geoff Blum to an offseason contract and they offered arbitration to Mark Loretta, and Loretta accepted.

I guess Hendry isn't the worst GM out there.

At this point, I think they would have to try really hard to finish worse than 4th with what the Cards and Pirates have to throw out there right now. At least Houston may score some runs with a middle of the order featuring Berkman, Lee, and Tejada and some decent filler around them in Pence, Wigginton (maybe decent), and Matsui if he has a decent year. The Pirates and Cards are hurt and just bad with no pitching.

I think Pittsburgh and Houston will be neck and neck for 5th.

I don't think it's fair to pencil the Cubs in for last place yet.

That dubious honor is bestowed upon the St. Louis Cardinals.
